I saw this awhile ago. I'm tentatively not too worried. CEO's will say nearly anything to appease the masses. Investors aren't stupid - so long as the actions from said comments are not material to the earnings calls, then no one really gives a shit.

Eh I disagree I think business 'woke' action has been their way of 'giving back to the community' but it just a tool to manipulate consumers further. Personally it one step away from facism except the government seizing the production and 'benefitting' the nation/community it massive global companies.

A fascinating poll shows that in 2012, Harvard Business School students supported Obama (57%) over Romney (34%). By 2016 it was 85% Clinton 3% Trump. This is a very rough barometer of the CEO classes' thought. There is increasing sentiment within companies that leadership needs to take sides on issues, and the general landscape has changed a lot in the last decade.

People who own guns may be worried that Beto is going to grab all their AR-15's, but more likely it will be things like PayPal/Square and later Visa blocking gun sales, WalMart removing ammo, etc. Of course, CEOs will support a 21% corporate tax rate instead of 35%, but social issues and not taxes dominate the headlines 99% of the time unless you are big into finance.

Bingo. It's just virtue signalling from the C-suite. People want to feel good about things they buy and the companies that make them, and the virtue signals provide them a dose of "warm fuzzies."

Or could be its paying lip service to ideas that actually are profitable for them...

I don't think these CEO's are saying anything new. When push comes to shove, Capitalism is still capitalism that is until the commies take over. There is a saying that all politicians are crooks (well most of them). And all CEO's are liars. They may be good husbands, wives, fathers, or mothers but that doesn't mean they are good people. And they wouldn't hesitate to screw you over a dollar.
