There is no one size fits all when it comes to upgrading phones. The condescension is what I don't understand (and about upgrading phones no less). It's laughably arbitrary.

I don't have data on me or anything but who on earth would be stupid enough to do this?

If you have an older generation phone and it's too slow and you have the means to upgrade to a faster phone and you willingly don't upgrade then that, by definition, makes you ignorant.

You seem to be implying that a striking number of individuals who don't upgrade their phones regularly fall into this category. Why
?
There are absolutely a ton of people that fall into this category... in fact Apple got sued for what people believed to be intentional slowing of their phones... except that it was intentional slowing of their phone for their own phone's good. As in the hardware was now used up the point (battery) etc that it wouldn't work properly without this slow down.

Isn’t complaining about degrading the performance of an existing product owned by a consumer a little different than complaining about a previous generation being slower than a newer generation?

It's one and the same especially if the former is effectively caused by the latter...

Honest question: do people still download new apps? The only ones I have recently added were because they were needed for work (Webex Teams and Microsoft Teams). For the rest, haven’t added a new app in years.

I was still on the iPhone SE last month, then this month I bought the Huawei P20 Pro for its Triple Camera. The Main Camera is really amazing, but the Selfie Camera is crap. The earphone placement to hear calls is on one side so if you can hear clearly on say your right ear you'll have to re-adjust for the left ear, which is stupid. The day before Twitter crashed while I was just browsing. Whatsapp crashes as well. I feel that I need to restart the phone at least once a day or else it's laggy.

I reserved an iPhone Xs Space Grey 64GB to be picked up Friday morning.

We have pretty good trade-in/resell places in Hong Kong, and the Huawei P20 Pro is still a pretty desirable phone, so it shouldn't be a problem to get rid of it.

My iPhone 7 works fine. I need to replace the battery before the Dec 31 deadline, but I plan on keeping it for at least another year after that.

Some apps moderately faster with iOS 12 on iPad Pro. Some seem about the same - maybe the are pending updates. I always wait a while to see what issues pop up for others with iOS updates before updating phone so not yet updated.

I recalll reading iOS 12 was supposed to allow third party apps like Waze to work with Apple CarPlay. Any reports on that front?

Edit: one moderately annoying thing about iOS 12 is that Apple switched locations of emoji and number buttons on keypad. Hopefully won’t take long to get used to this change.

Was getting that exact error when trying to update my watch. Then an hour later it just started updating. Not surprised it's already buggy.

fak paying $1000+ every year for a new iphone that does exactly the same shit as the one before. Oh, but facial recognition!! The A12 bionic processor!

I'll get this new one sometime in 2020 or 2021 for a reasonable price and still be incredibly happy.

That’s why you don’t do it every year...do it every 3-5 years unless you feel the need to upgrade sooner.

I get more for the old phone when I upgrade annually. I might have skipped the X had I known the screen was smaller than the 7 plus though. The 5.8 inch screen is misleading.

I also bit the bullet and put in my order for the XS 256 to replace my 6.

My question relates to your posting because I added the AppleCare to which I don't see the value in because AMEX automatically covers the product for 120 days for damage, defects, and/or theft protection and extends the original warranty after for an equivalent of one year after Apples one year warranty wears off all at no additional cost.

I knee jerked on the AppleCare purchase because my IP6 was replaced 6x by Apple under warranty due to defects...ugh. I'm thinking of revising my purchase and taking AppleCare off because it almost seems redundant.
