I've had nice cars in NYC for years and never had a problem... just have to be smart about parking, driving etc,. I only park on street when absolutely necessary and keep it to a minumum, otherwise garage all the time and anytime. Nice car in NYC is a lot of fun

OP, I am thoroughly enjoying your reaction to this experience! Too bad about your car though... As a cop, I have been involved in many cases like this, and it's cool that they let you go with. As for others saying you should have knocked him out, that's the worng thing to do. Property crimes do not justify personal violence.

Oh, I was taping and calling NYPD at the same time... and surprizingly they've arrived very quickly... in unmarked car... I couldn't even tell they were cops till they flashed their lights...

The 2 officers that arrived were mad-cool they were local Italian Brooklynites!

... it is not my car... It was someone else's, so the officers could not even take a report from me... hopefully the original owner will... Officers left a note in his car to contact them etc,..

... and yes, I was enjoying the whole experience very thoroughly Cruising with Officers was like beeing in a TV Show, very surreal...

Yes, I was aware of that... that he could have had a weapon... but as I said before, I have seen all this in past, I had been jumped at with knife, with gun etc, in past so I am very well aware how these things unfold...

... but it seems he was absolutely terrified of my Cannon camera

Could be true. Based on the pictures, I'm guessing this is not this guy's first rodeo, and that he isn't losing a lot of sleep over it. It is one of the most gratifying things, in the world (Said like Jeremy Clarkson).
