Not a fan of RUS either but I wouldn't switch with HAM after the way he did him twice during the race. Quick move towards him closing into T1 but well before entry wasn't cool. And then pushing him so far off the track that HAM couldn't even stay within the limits either - ridiculous. RIC & LAW in the 2nd seats to start '24. Think Japan was the straw that broke the camel's back for PER and with the solid start by LAW it gives RBR a little more freedom to move RIC up if they want. Ultimately I think LAW is their target for the 2nd seat but they would rather him keep cutting his teeth at AT instead of hopping into what is likely the most difficult 2nd seat in F1. Having to learn the ropes as RBR's 2nd has chewed up some good talent - give LAW as much time as possible to get up to speed to best set him up for success and hopefully not have him go the way of his predecessors. I don't think RIC is much of a step up from PER in skill at this point - but PER I feel like has burned his bridge there. I believe RBR understands what they have in their cars - they are ultimately capable of top level performance but require a unique skill set to extract that level of performance. But even if the 2nd seat does not have level of skill (and I'm not sure any driver on the grid besides VER does) - they still have a car that should be capable of competing for podiums almost every race. I think they also recognize that where they have taken the car based on VERs ability has also made it somewhat difficult to drive fast for others in less than ideal conditions. This season has had some very difficult sessions (particularly in qualy) where changing conditions and questionable/uncertain grip levels can make an already difficult car to drive fast more than what a lot of driver's can handle. Doesn't show well for PER but he survived still in P2 and looked like RBR had patience with him. But now with stupid mistakes showing up I think it's too much. They can handle a bit of damage replacement and know he will not match VER in pace - but stupid driving is too far. I do not think that RIC is a step up but I think his mindset will be that he is very fortunate to be in a fast seat again and will do whatever the team wants him to do/be in order to stay in it as long as he can.

Would love to see another of the young guns paired up with VER - NOR, LEC, even RUS - but I do not think any of them would be willing to risk their legacies. As long as VER has a team that is willing to push the car to the extreme to maximize his talent (as they rightly should) then I'm not sure that there is any other driver that can challenge him. Do not think that the other drivers with "good" seats would be willing to risk that.
