Question How do Wash Your Steering Wheel ?

Just over 2,000 mi my 2024 M240i and I'm loving it. I want to keep my steering wheel looking fresh and maintain that factory matte finish.

What’s the best way to clean it without making it shiny or damaging the material?

Get some Sonax on Amazon and follow the directions. I use it on my alcantara steering wheel and it looks great.

Diluted Woolite and a soft brush works for me. Amazing how much dirt collects there.

For those of you using lots of hand-cream or sun-tan lotion—you may want to find something stronger!

Zaino....I haven't heard that name in 15 years. I used their paint products when they first came out. I was told on many occasions that my NSX looked like a shiney Red jellybean. I loved the smell of it too.

Chemical guys leather cleaner + detail brush (or some other soft brush). Spray, agitate, wipe away with a micro fiber towel. Will maintain and bring back that matte look. No conditioners - car leather is finished/sealed so that stuff will just sit on the surface.

I use Swissvax leather Forte and Colourlock Shield. They have a foaming cleaner as well, but I prefer the Swissvax version.

Good idea to start upkeep and maintenance now. I just refinished the wheel on the daily with 58k and couldn’t be happier with the results. Looks and feels and feels new.

Because you can still use it on leather too.

Considering my steering wheel is leather and alcantara, yes. I even clean my seats with it too.

From the Sonax website:

"SONAX Upholstery & Alcantara Cleaner is a brand new formulation developed especially for vehicles with Alcantara seats and accessories. Dirty & matted Alcantara will be brought back to its original vibrant colors and soft, suede feel. SONAX Upholstery & Alcantara Cleaner is also safe and effective on carpets, textiles & standard upholstered seating and interior surfaces."

Interesting. I've always used a separate leather cleaner on the leather portion, and Sonax on the alcantara areas. I guess if it works, it works!
