For me i have both. A 40 cal sig with 13 hollow buddies on the nightstand, and a pump shotgun. Both with rounds in the chamber. Pistol is i need it fast weapon or for the wife if she needs something and i can get the shotgun. Shotgun is the if I have time weapon, check a noise, etc wracking is if its safe to do. No visible weapons in hands, surprise them, etc. If its not safe to do, then my neighbors will hear boom, boom, stop or I'll shoot. I'm not wasting a couple seconds racking the gun, having one less round, or being forced to make the racking noise pistol, shotgun, whatever, unless I choose to.

My understanding is you don't keep a shotgun chambered because they aren't drop safe. A simple thing like a pet knocking over your 12 Gage can produce a disaster.

Not if you have Unagi.

Every situation is different. This is only at home. If zombies and ninjas are out and about my gear would change.

This is not a joke, but i have asked several State and local police, active and retired, they told me the ready position(open port) was used as an ashtray

Idk about every shotgun, but if the safety is on on my mossberg then the gun is rendered incapable of firing, dropped or not. Msybe some older or cheaply msde ones, not a current modern design. People worry about a cocked and locked 1911 also. This is actually the safe way to carry it and i have yet to see in its 105 yrs of use this one of the if not the top produced automatic in history having a round go off when dropped cocked and locked. Wives tale.

It's against the law to keep a loaded gun in your home in Canada......having said that it's also against the law to speed.....I think I was a bit over the limit this morning.

You're preaching to the choir. In Canada, firearms must be locked away, with a trigger lock and ammunition must be locked away in a separate safe/location. This prevents the gangsters from doing drive by's....

Its proven that 45 will inflict more damage, but I personally favor my 9mm. A hollow point or two is enough to stop any threat thats within threat distance, and it costs a little less.
