Not far off in other locations. When I was on the Mozambique / Zimbabwe border during the hyper inflation period that Zimbabwe was having, there were tons of signs on public restrooms that said "DO NOT FLUSH ZIM DOLLARS!" over the toilets.

A few million zim dollars were worth less than the cost of a roll of T.P. - so it was cheaper to go that route for many folks.

I disagree with this policy, they are just inflating the currency and robbing us of future purchasing power.

Per all your posts, it should read anything, not everything.

I'm sending a half dozen pizzas over to our local medical facility tomorrow for nurses and docs. Really just to show that we support them.

Props!

I just venmo'd $100 to our favorite waiter at our local restaurant. Should help him at least a bit. If this continues - I will likely give him another $100 in a couple of weeks.

I feel your pain concerning the divorce rape.
+3

I am very concerned if this thing causes a long term shutdown. I started my life over in 2017 and walked away from everything with a fat alimony payment until the end of 2022. Started over from scratch. My income is 80% commission. I won't last long financially.

I don't expect the govt to send me a check for the record.
.... and my wife just got laid off. Fuck

I'll be honest, that's a nice gesture and I hope more people do that sort of thing for everyone.

I'm never for the gov sending me money...I will have to pay them back for it one way or another. Now that said we did have some business purchases we wanted to make this year but are holding off due to the virus. Guess we could use that money towards it. Starting to see people wincing about needing work done. MIL works for a major car dealership group and they didn't sell any cars over the weekend, at any location. Makes her worried.

Will I have to give it back? Covid-19 has been VERY good for business. I'm no longer a commissioned rep, but some guys on my team have sold more in the last 6 weeks than the previous 6 months

I was talking to one of our sale reps that had a customer order 36,000 cases of hand sanitizer. About $2.2 million, his commission on that 1 order would be about $150,000. Unfortunately products are on allotment, couldn't give them the 36,000 cases

While officials have indicated the ultra-rich would not be eligible, McConnell said Thursday the checks would still go to everybody "from the middle class on down. Period."

How the middle class is defined can be a contentious subject when stimulus checks are on the line. One source told Fox Business Network that the amount would start to reduce for those making $75,000 and above -- and the checks would be limited to those who make $99,000 or less.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday morning told Fox Business Network that the White House is looking at payments of $1,000 to most adult Americans within three weeks, and an additional $500 for children. A family of four would receive as much as $3,000. Mnuchin also said that if the crisis were still ongoing in six weeks, the federal government would deliver another round of checks worth the same amount of money.

$99,000 is near poverty in Los Angels. They may see the start of middle class at that number which I guess is correct for some areas of the US but there are a few that you need at least $300k to live a middle class life. The cost of that thing you have to live in can take a big chunk of a $100k income.
I don't think it will do much for those over the poverty level but it is a decent way to calm the market along with the other measures. Slightly calming is it's only real benefit but not sure it's worth ~$300b.
Opinion, no, don't do it. We are already close to Greek debt crisis debt/GDP levels already.
Corporate bailouts, yes. Keeps people employed and the country makes a nice spread on the money between the near zero rate they are issuing debt at and the 5+ percent rate they will charge.

but not everyone "middle class and down" has been negatively effected by the virus.

I mentioned above that we've been super busy. Our customer service reps are all working, our warehouse is all working, and we can't hire enough drivers for the amount of work and the drivers are cranking the OT. many would welcome the $1000, but they haven't been affected

and how often are these $1000 checks coming? 1X? 1X per week?

my younger brother does auto glass. they're still working, but slower because less people driving. If you sent him $1000, he's buy a tv and some weed

I am not seeing the connection between agencies and companies or how they could even be compared in your context. One (companies) are designed to run to generate profit and if properly managed build a reserve for dips in revenue. The other (agencies) are given funds from the state to just eke out a balance budget by the end of the fiscal year.

I think the numbers I saw were: payments start to taper if you make more than $75k a year, and you're completely exempt if you're over $100k.

I'd think that probably takes out the majority of the peeps on this board.

Does it go by person or household? Not asking because I expect a check just curious.
