Tyre size

I've been wondering, mostly for the X3 G01, why BMW uses the maximum tire width for the M40i wheels (and probably for the smaller engines) compared to the X3M, where the so-called ideal size is used for its wheel width. I see why so many people with the X3M opt for wider tires, and it got me thinking why BMW decided to do this.
