....because had the whole family out boating and it was the first lake time this season with the boat. Despite the 57 degree Fahrenheit water the kids still went swimming.....technically this was yesterday but wanted to share as it was legendary....

...because we now have a rough-cut 300-foot driveway at our SC retirement property!

One of the tasks on this week's odyssey was to get contractor quotes for knocking in a rough driveway into the tree farm. I was just getting quotes, figuring that SC contractors were on the same backlog as NY contractors and would schedule it for August or later in the fall. One of them gave us a price that I couldn't refuse, estimated four days of work, and said that he could start on Saturday because the forecast for Friday was rainy. I was trying to figure out how we could get back down to SC next weekend to inspect the finished job and make the final payment.

Long story short, we got a call late Saturday while we were in Nashville saying that he put two crews on the job and it didn't rain on Friday so he got it done in two days. So, instead of heading home via I-81, we had to make a detour back to SC to inspect the job and make the final payment. I drove the Mighty Dodge up the new driveway to the site where we want to build our Garage Mahal with no difficulty, and that was what I wanted to do versus hiking in that 300 feet through thick forest.

As we were sitting up there enjoying a few minutes of rest, a *#*$##*$^@ woodpecker started attacking one of our crop trees.....

Pretty good.

On a 4 days West Coast trip to Vancouver BC and while the forecast at the time was rain on all 4 days we have not had a drop...

Both I and the wife are still alive after spending not one, but TWO complete weekends building additional chicken enclosures, from scratch, with no plans.

I am very detail-oriented. If I'm going to make a cut, why not spend 5 seconds more and make it square? When we start to string the wire on the first corner, if we don't get it level, by the time we get to the 3rd corner it will be way off, and we won't be able to secure it properly.

I was only bleeding in 3 spots by the end of yesterday. Back sliced (twice) from those eves; elbow caught some corner of chicken wire before it was covered; shin caught some chicken wire during demolition of a previous enclosure.

In today's market, that's worth at least half a million dollars

Sorry, I don't want to have to deal with renters, wanting to park in the driveway, use the water hose, object to seeing my ghostly apparition in the middle of the night when I have to pee. . .

But you could request that they vacate your lawn, on a regular basis; that's got to be a plus!

We have one rental on our block. Have seen approx 10 different renters in the past 30 years since I've been here. That averages to 3 years per renter. Some more, some less. Most have been nice family types. Wish they'd stay longer.

One time it was 5 or 6 or 7 twenty-somethings that moved in, swinger types with lots of parties. The owner was not smart that time. Cops were called several times (not by me). The house is across the street and several houses down from ours.

Didn't really bother me, except one time. They had a party with lots of cars on the street that night. Found some used condoms in the gutter the next morning. That bothered me a bit.

I finally got around to installing the "new" router I bought 2 years ago. It's replacing one I've been running since 2010 or so. My download speed jumped from 70-80M to 225M. Sweet.

Completed the 4.3 miles carrying the Special Olympics torch in 41 minutes.

While my glucose monitor alarmed for low about .5 miles from finish, I wolfed down a tube of glucose tablets and finished at 61!

First squad car rushed me back to station for a Pepsi. I had one and a Twix an hour before the run

Not so much a race as just moving the torch thru Cali

Tried a new bottle of wine tonight. My daughter bought it for Father's Day, but I opened it early.

A red zinfandel (my favorite). Called Freakshow. Very good. 👍

….because I can finally see out of both eyes [a little]. Me and the lady contracted the worst case of dual-eye conjunctivitis the world has ever seen. Hers is worst than mine, however. Both of her eyes look like she got punched by Mike Tyson.
