No, they'd rather go twenty under, stick to their speed and force people to change lanes, speed or slow down. I've seen countless people so incapable of merging they will maintain there speed as the onramp has ended and just keep driving through all the debris on the shoulder.
Maybe one day drivers tests will require more than being able to drive 25mph on a quiet street, do a 3 point turn and parallel park.

I guess the road test instructors don't want to be subject to inexperienced drivers at speed🙄. Could be dangerous.

I think the inability to maintain consistent speed is my biggest pet peeve on the road. I hate when I move over to pass someone, get to their door and they speed up and match me, or when someone passes me, then falls back, passes me again, shoots a mile ahead, falls back again

I also cant stand people that fly through parking lots. Seriously, why do you need to do 30+mph in a damn parking lot where people and kids are walking?!

I was just about to post this after running to get lunch earlier.

People just FLY through the lots as if there aren't blind spots everywhere.

Phoenix has THE worst drivers ever. Or maybe it's just people here in this country lol people drive with zero awareness of other drivers, only give a shit about themselves. I see 1-2 accidents on my way to work every morning.

That place that hands out life-time licenses (essentially) to attract old-people to retire there? Color me shocked!

I know this is an old post, but what you're describing is actually the correct way to merge if the lane you're in is closed ahead while traveling in slow traffic. It is highly inefficient for cars to jump into the the open lane randomly. It actually slows down/disrupts flow. The zipper method where one car alternately merges behind the other right around where the lane closes is the most effective use of all available road. The US is the only place I've driven where people don't do this.

Now, you may be describing simply merging at the last second when traffic or lane closures aren't a consideration, and I agree - that's annoying and dangerous.

Pretty sure I explained this more to someone else as well. In any case, zipper method 100% perfect with me...if done correctly. What I can't stand is the people who wait to the very end of the lane that's coming to an end, and then stop. They sit there trying to nose their way into traffic while everyone else behind gets stuck. Or people who are already on the highway, use the merge lane to pass traffic, and then merge back into traffic.

drivers in front of me who drift onto the shoulder which kicks up debris. It's usually in the left hand lane which makes it twice as frustrating since they should not be in the passing lane.

had this happen the other day (all the moms are out driving their kids around for halloween, in neighborhoods they don't know).

we are at a 4 way stop facing each other. reach it at the same time. no blinker on or anything. she starts going straight so i think ok i will go straight too. we both get through the intersection and traffic moves along.

she starts to move and then decides to throw her blinker on last second and make a left in front of me.

4 way stop are just bad in general. there are too many people arriving at the same time and then get into the 'you go, no you go, no you go' situation.

People that don't use their turn signals until they are actually turning from a turn lane! No car brands are excluded from this pet peeve!
People that don't pull over on a hill when there are 73 cars behind them! So F'ing inconsiderate!

yes, Yes, YES!

And I try to avoid driving behind all big rigs/trucks, especially dump trucks. If I have to (e.g. two-lane roads), I'll leave like 10 car links of space. Sometimes I just pull over and let others go ahead so I'm not blocking traffic. So much bad can happen following a truck too closely.

Believe it or not, this is the safest more efficient way to merge… and in places like southern California, the only way.

“ Zipper merge

Road work or accidents may require lane closures. When you encounter lane closures, you may need to get into a new lane or allow others to get into your lane. Zipper merging is considered to be a best practice by the Federal Highway Administration and a safe way to handle lane closures. Zipper merging is when drivers use both lanes of traffic until they reach the defined merge area and then alternate into the open lane in a zipper fashion. A zipper merge reduces unexpected and dangerous lane switching as well as traffic backup.”

Mine is when the idiot from the number 5-6 lane jumps to the number 1-2 lane to just go SLOWER!!!!!

Stupid and clueless ppl generally, esp those who think they are right when clearly wrong. Just yesterday I was at a 4-way stop, I arrived before and was to the right of this lady, so I enter the intersection and she tries to do the same, I stare at her as I'm passing and she has this look that is not "oop, sorry" but rather "wth...why are you starting before me???" What an idiot.

I was going to say just "minivans", but I realized that the bad driver in their minivan is already being punished by having to drive - a minivan.
