I'd still rather have a MBP. Faster, more sophisticated and more features. The only cool thing about the MacBook Air is the fact that it's mad thin. The screen is smaller, smaller HD, less ram...

Pretty hot in my opinion, i am really digging the the solid state HD as well. I want some performance numbers on that versus regular hd/5400or 7200rpm drives.

I'm on wireless 100% of the time at home on my laptop. It wouldn't be bad and I already have a portable external dvd-writer. Man this drive is perfect to go with it:

I am going to upgrade my powerbook G4 to this.. I think the MBP is overkill of laptop and I love to have my computer with me all the time and right now after a while my 15inch 5.5lb powerbook becomes a burden. This will be perfect like pointed out for people who have other macs at home and I fit into that.. And it seems apple is looking to the future by not having a CD/DVD drive.. Like I posted in the Blu ray vs HD-DVD both are dead since consumers will move to download video offers such as the Vudu box or Itunes, well you can also buy software and download it online from manufactures usually a discount, I prefer to download my apps instead of having a CD around since the CD only gets scratched up or lost. Back when apple removed the floppy drive in favor of a CD drive only they were criticized but it made sense in the coming years, now as Apple removes the CD/DVD drive it will make sense in a few years. (I cant recall the last time I burned a CD I only did that before I had an Ipod and before everyone else had Ipod's, now you can plug your ipod into just about every car.)

Also, if you have another Mac (or even a PC) you can wirelessly DL software using their optical drive. Very revolutionary, IMO.

this laptop is not meant for people who are looking for all-in-one performance package. they're targeting people who browse the net all day, go to meetings, sit in the park, go on business trips, etc., etc. any of those people would tell you that they don't need an optical drive and that they don't remember the last time they used their ethernet port.

if you don't like it because it lacks peripherals and power, you clearly don't know what this laptop is for.

I dont know how people ever used P4 comptuers then... This core 2 duo is faster than any P4 used in a laptop and between 1-2 times faster than any P4 used in a desktop.

For most on the road a single core chip running at 1ghz would be more than fine.. After all I have my core 2 duo desktop at home for running anything that needs most power... Yet I cant think of any common programs that require any of the specs close to what the MBA has.

they only reason why I have not pre-order one is because of the lack of fireware port. how can a mac not not have a FW port ??? WTF... but who knows when I see it at the apple store I may be sold.

You should do some research. You may be the coolest kid at your college for a week, but at the end of the day you will be the coolest kid with the most useless laptop. My girlfriends macbook is pretty small and light. I dont see why you would need this. Especially in collegw when shit gets beat up.

A secondary computer? That idea is not that far-fetched. But that just proves Apple knows it has everyone in their hands and everyone will be retarded and buy whatever.

Shit I have one computer, a secondary that cost $1700? haha is that why America is going into a depression again?

if I get it I will also use it for college, I'm not try to be cool, to be honest I don't care what others think.

look at the macbook air as a 2 seater Porsche convertible and others full featured laptops as minivans

is not useless but if you really want to have all your crap loaded with you wherever you are...then I guess the minivan it is

First I wasn't literally saying he will think he is cool, not sure if he is like that but obviously he will be like you and say he isn't.

And second your analogy sucks. The Porsche is way faster, better handling and just overall besides space is better.

In this case a Macbook Pro is better overall besides not being as thin and weight. The only thing acceptable with that analogy is that Porsche makes a stupid amount of money off their cars and overcharges, Just like Apple.

I'd rather get the asus EEE PC.(well i have one already hah) i can grab it wiht one hand (length wise) and i can put it on my small shoulder bag like a regular size hard cover book.

This macbook is a good idea, but i don't justify the price.. the asus EEE PC less than 300 dollars and offers a super easy OS by linux that even my grandpa can use!

+1

MW was a bit of a let down this year, but hell, maybe I'm just judging it against last year's.

Also, +1 to the person who mentioned Remote Disc. Totally remedies the lack of an optical drive imo.

Ya, it's always like that. Apple comes out with something and you like it, it looks cool. But then comes the day when you see the product in person, and you really want it. It's just the way it is
