The car control MAX has is insane. Much like Senna, who could be on the absolute edge of out of control and still be lightning fast. And if you pay a good amount of money to get that driver in your team, you build the car around them. To the extreme. Mediocrity is not F1’s focus.

That’s all fine and I don’t disagree, but I don’t want to hear it from all the Red Bull fans complaining that Checo can’t do this or that in such a car when we know the car is catered more to VER.

Mercedes is a prime example how it’s difficult to improve or fix a car when the base concept is going in direction and you’re trying to go in another - it’s not easy to develop a car that was intended for VER and make tweaks to suit Checo’s driving style.

They just released a story about how they recognized their updates last year affected Checo's ability to drive the car, and this year's car is suited very well to both of them. Check himself gave that insight.

That may be the case but let’s see what happens over the course of the season. I tend not to hear what people say, instead see what happens on the track - the stopwatch doesn’t lie.

Fair enough - I'm expecting the same as everyone else...it starts fairly even and then gravitates toward Max because we all know the setup with RB.

So what position does Checo have to finish in the WDC to make this an issue/non-issue?

He was basically in the running for P2 last season and finished P3.

He's never going to finish above Max so at one point does it become controversy or cope? (Not directed at you just in general I think media/some fans are over-exaggerating alternative development conditions that are never going to put Checo on the same level as Max)

It’s not so much where he finishes, it’s what happens during the course of the season. Checo was in championship position until Red Bull brought upgrades and his performance fell of and all the Red Bull fans on here saying Max needs a new #2 when in reality it was the car that was largely to blame for the drop off.

If Red Bull has indeed found a balance for the car that suits both VER and Checo? I would expect Checo to be up there with VER almost every race.
