Hey Guys, sry been mia....busy with wifey, kiddo and work. Still training of course.

So interesting training note. Did conventional DLs (heavy) yesterday. Haven’t done that in at least a year. Wanted to see where I was with them. To my surprise working sets of 3x3 at 435. Afterward I could definitely feel it, low back and my CNS. Way more then Sumo.

I followed that up with Back Squats today. Risky since I was smoked from yesterday but I said fuck it. Carefully built up to 3x3 working sets at 395. Did not want to over do it. So now I’m totally smoked and tomorrow will be Active recovery Assult bike or swimming.

Hope you all are killing it!

That could go either way Chris. Sometimes your body will appreciate a break from heavy lifting. A lot is mental. I’m sure you didn’t lose much strength. Even if you did it will come back fast.

Not sure I'm trying to get it back. Goals have changed for now. Havent done any deads to speak of or bench squat but weight hasnt been heavy. No low rep ranges on anything really like I am used to. 10s about minimum usually higher 12-15 sometimes as high as 40.

Change is good, and having new goals will definitely put a different spin on your training. Heavy training on big compound movements at our age is rough. Which is why I am very careful with my programming, rest and recovery.

I give you credit for switching it up, a lot of guys will not do that. They will just keep beating their heads against the wall. Keep us posted. Good luck brotha!

Honestly the squat of 10 reps at 275 little while ago at the point in my workout it was done was more impressive than my 405 squat for 1 rep. I got to 6 and was done and did 4 more. Was different kind of heart.

I always find that taking 2-3 months out of the year, putting a cap on my max weights, and working on volume progression (increasing reps, lowering rest times, etc) really seems to motivate me and renew my "vigor" for this sport.

Besides giving the joints a break, your body actually responds to the difference and you still make progress.

Unfortunately, I developed bronchitis and an ear infection last Saturday after dodging everyone at work who had been dropping like flies. So I haven't been to the gym in almost 6 days. It's killing me.

But as evident by the time of this post, I'm also haven't been sleeping the last few nights. I've spent it up watching TV and reading just trying to control the cough. I rarely get sick.....and guys this shit hit me like a train.

I was just getting full swing into my diet, starting to see some nice changes, and this happens. Now I feel "soft", and I look in the mirror and feel like I'm wasting away because I have no appetite.

I can't wait to get back at it!

Hang in there, get as much rest as you can. Stay hydrated.

You'll be on the other side of this before you know it.

Yeah I’m in one of those 2-3 month phases myself. Squatting, deadlifting, everything is staying under 75-80% 1RM and just going for high rep sets 8-12. All about longevity.

Best of luck with the bronchitis, that SUCKS.

Hope you feel better soon Rmtt. It happens to all of us eventually. Sometimes you can’t avoid the sick bug.

My most recent was with allergies, like really bad. Had to take some time off from training even missed a few days of work. I swear my allergies get worse every year!

Thanks guys. Like I said, I'm one of those that hardly ever get sick. When I am, I tend to be antisocial. Unfortunately....it's also when the nurturer in my wife comes out....when I want to be left alone.

I'm just ready to get back into training. Also, since I had never had an ear infection....I wondered why I felt so off-balance recently. Odd feeling.

Yup, I did. The resort we stayed at had a great gym. Did an early FathersDay workout before a pool day with the family.

Was able to do some chest/biceps and metabolic conditioning circuit, wasn’t bad actually.

Hope you all had a good Fathers Day!

Front squats today....working sets up to 3x3 at 305. Felt heavy today.

Then power cleans and squat cleans off blocks.
PC-working sets 3x3 at 205
SC-working sets 3x3 at 225

Happy with the numbers.

First day back in the gym today after being out all last week from being sick. I ended up losing 6lbs, but actually set a personal best in my incline bench that I haven't done in a few years.

I've got about 7 weeks before my beach trip, so time to try and use this break as a catapult to keep adding strength while leaning up as long as I can!

After missing meals and coughing for most of the week...all my abs are showing again for what it's worth.
