Timing also matters. If a vehicle was scheduled to be delivered before a new model year came out, that's a big difference. But if you were looking at delivery 9 months before new models arrived or something like that, well, you either want a new car or you don't. There will always be something newer and better around the bend.

As long as the cars perform well (and even the 325i does now) I don't see it being a huge factor at resale time if a new version comes out with slightly better performance. I do, however, see it being a huge factor in some egos. Is that the case here?

Also keep in mind that with improvements and upgrades to the 3 series line, you'll also see price increases. And since German manufacturers always charge exhorbitant premiums for better engines, I'd expect the price increase to outpace the performance increases, and so there goes the resale argument. Pay more, sell for more, it's a wash.

Some people like the car search and anticipation more than the actual delivery and use. My father is like that. They spend months researching and waiting to get just what they want. Then when it arrives the new wears off soon and they start thinking of reasons why they need the newer better version. One year into the design cycle, I doubt BMW is making any changes that most people can even notice in the driving experience, which is really all it's about. Winning drag races by a 1/2 car length with a newer model....yawn.

Thanks!

I actually liked the E46 323 over the 325. The 323 had more torque where the 325 had more Hp. The 325 torque was lower than the 323. I'm not really worried about the HP increase (20) if the E90 325 was to go to a 328, it is the torque that I am more concerned about. More torque is always a good thing.

BTW, I was told yesterday that BMW NA intends to cut dealer profit margins, again. So, expect to see dealer discounting not as good as it is now.

BTW, at 34 I maybe old to you and some board others, but I am certainly not an old fart.
SCA,

World will recognize, it is the owner's honor to keep a E30 M3 is just ;
I would not drive a 1988 M3 as a day-to-day car in order to lengthen its life-time. Take good care of it.

If you are not ready for a E90 , don't buy it and the money is still nice and warm in the pocket. Do consider a E90 M3/4 when time comes.

The only thing that would worry me would be missing out on a bi-turbo gasoline engine. The lease on my E46 is up in June 2006 and I don't see the bi-turbo (ie. 335) on the horizon.

I do wish I had ordered the heated seats, but with the recent info that the 2007 model year will see the 325 go to a 328 and 330 to a 335 plays a large part. Another issue, the car appears to have spent 4 days in quality control.

Can you live a year or more without an E90? How would your life be? Factor the price of that answer into the equation

I do not know whether price is an issue to you or not, but keep in mind that the longer you wait the more expensive things will become. A 328 and a 335 are going to be much more than the 325 and the 330 simply due to the engines. Not accounting for inflation costs, labor costs ect. I bet both cars will at least be $3,000 more. They are high enough already. I even bet in Jan 06 the prices of 325 and 330 will go up at least $700. Both cars are fast enough now, but do what you want to do. If you put more into a 335 and don't mind waiting another YEAR for one then wait but also remember when they first change there will basically be no discounts so the car just got that much more expensive due to lack of negotiation. Just food for thought

I have yet to notify the dealer of my intentions. Still uncertain. Maybe I should just flip a quarter.

Unless you really need a car right now I would wait at least january to see if any news comes out.
