Guys I Need Help Buying A New TV

ok guys i need a tv but here is the problem. i have no clue what on earth what to get. dlp, lcd, plasma. yes i will be hooking up all the goodies, ps3, 360, wii, etc. what is the best bang for the buck here with the best quality and reliablity. basically what should i go with?

lastly what is the deal with the 780p and 1080p. bigger the better?

what do you guys think about a wall mount compared to a table as well?

i like lcd because it's the brightest. Unless you have a room that you can keep dark, I wouldn't go plasma, but maybe that's just me. I wouldn't get anything thats not 1080p at this point in time. I wouldn't say the bigger the better, especially if you're trying to game on it. You lose detail at the bigger sizes despite how nice your tv is. I'm running the sony xbr3 50" lcd in the den and the 32" xbr lcd in my bedroom. To be honest, I dont think you can beat the my 50", but I probably could've saved a few hundred and gone samsung for my smaller ones indeed. I DEFINITELY prefer table mount. One of my friends has his on the wall, and unless you've got a nice setup to an av cabinet with a really nice hd receiver, you're going to have a lot of wires going down from the tv. Everytime you want to hook something up, you'll have to take it off the wall.

Equipped with DishNetwork HDTV receiver, Pioneer av receiver, Sony XBR3 50", Slingbox AV, Wii, PS3, Xbox360, Trek HD Antenna (It's really worth it, trust me). (and yes, I know that I should have that wheel installed by now)

Yeah rear projections are huge.

wait to the rear projector and flat lcd both have the same reliablity, function, quality, etc just different size? if so i can save hundreds as space isn't an issue for me.

and jebus these wall mounts are expensive too.

I didn't know you were talking about LCD rear projections. That is something different I guess. I don't know anything about those.

I bought a Samsung 37" LCD HDTV with the wall mount and let me tell you, Its ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. Especially with the High Definition channels i got from my cable company. So definitely go with and LCD TV with wall mount. Walmart.com has a great offer where you can purchase the TV and get a free wall mount.

Rear projection LCDs are much more like old school rear projections than new lcd's. They're EXTEMELY difficult to see under sunlight. The picture is horribly dull, and you'll have to worry about burn in.

Wall mounts allow tilting +/- 15 degrees, and TVs suitable for wall mounting have all the connections either at the bottom or to the side. No need to take the TV down to change a connection. Wires can be made 'invisible' by running them inside the wall, but you will probably need an electrician for this.

I've found that wall mounting is great for the bedroom, because you can place the TV higher than with the typical TV stand. This way you can watch TV while laying in your bed, without sitting down or your own feet getting in the line of sight.

Hmmm, what kind of tv/mounts are you running? Seriously, the guy has a samsung and probably the cheapest bracket they offer. It doesn't move, at all, and you basically screw the tv into the thing. I HATE it!

you need to be much more specific when asking about hdtv. What's the budget? do you mostly watch movies? how much are you into games? 780p its 720p. how big is the room? how far will your eyes be from the display? will you use a cpu? can you control the light coming into the room 100% of the time? check out this forum. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php? and good luck.

I have a Pioneer PDP-5080HD with a SANUS VMPLB VisionMount wall mount. You have a good point: more entry level stuff may not be as 'user friendly'.

budget not really. not the 70-103"+ for like $30,000 lol. i just want a tv that is the best in quality, reliablity, and best bang for the buck. i don't know much about all this dlp, projection, etc. space is not a problem. looking for a 50" or 52" lcd hdtv flat perferably, LG, samsung, panasonic, sony.

i had a 1997 zenith rear projection tv i think 54 or 56 inches. something blew out and when i turn it on there is no light on the screen just black but there is still sound. leave it like this for like 2-3 minutes and you get a smell of something burning inside the tv.

i was going to call the sears repair guy but he charges $105 just to come in. and i think a 1997 tv and to find the part to replace and installation is impossible to none from sears considering it is a 1997?

Does the room have a lot of external light that you can't control? If so, I would go with the biggest plasma you can afford.

if space is not a problem, the best bang for your buck is samsung 61 dlp 1080p ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1173577986348 ).. it will never burn out (maybe replace bulp once in 3-5 years covered by warranty) and they will not lagg like lcd's do when watching fast movement (sports)... and the picture quality is awsome.. i got 56" one for 3 years now, best tv for the money

Only problem with DLP is viewing angle...spot straight/direct 90 degrees to the tv is optimal...but if you sit closer to the tv and along side...the picture quality is not as good. Hence my vote for plasma...

I went with what TV has the higest ratings on Cnet and others. The Pioneer PDP series and Pro series. I have the PDP 43 inch, best picture I have ever seen, besides the new pioneer 1080p's. Oh yeah, I also have it in a wall unit on a stand. I would rather have it mounted but its great anyway. With LCD you will have reduced clairity at certain veiwing angels, LCD looks best head on. You will have to replace the bulbs, around $400 each. And finally, black reproduction will never be as good as plasmas because when and LCD shows black it is just turning off the pixel, but light from other pixels still get through which results in poor, black reproduction. Plasmas don't have as many pitfalls though, their life time is pretty much the same plasma are 60,000 hours. LCD are 60,000 though some claim 80,000, but keep in mind you do have to replace bulbs. Orginally plasma had trouble with image retention (Burnin - in) in the first 100 hours of use, when a static image was left on for too long. Due to new technologies this is now called Temporary Image Retention or TRI as it is now almost always reversable and most newer plasmas come with "whitewash" or programs like that which clear the burnt in image. With both plasma and LCD you risk dead pixels. With plasma you must be carful not to carry it and other way but straight up, any other way will potentially break it. Plasma also costs more.

I would go no other way than Pioneer plasma with FiOS TV, the picture cannot be beat. Its like, why get a Lexus if you can have a BMW, they are both amazing, but you know BMW is better.

dunno man, i heard it alot, I never saw any difference from any angles, no rainbow effect anywhere... quality is amazing too, when I was buying, I saw plasma/lcd/dlp side by side, and I liked dlp the best... and you can't beat the price also

tv will be downstairs so it is dark. i have lamps, etc which can be turned off to pitch black but yea overall it is dark.

if you want bang for your buck. go for vizio. i just bought a 32" LCD HDtv vizio for my garage. it cost $570 from sears. Vizio have the lowest return. the wall mount for these cost about $40 bucks.
