GSP vs Anderson Silva. If it happens, who you got??
Title says it all. If GSP gets through Shields, it is going to be The Spider next!
Let the debate begin... |

most likely GSP, he is too fast for anyone at 170 already, at 185 no one will be able to keep up, would be interesting to see how he handles the stronger opponents at 185

Well gsp needs to win his next fight. AS is on a another level than gsp, he has better striking, jiu jitsu, but gsp has that boring grinding style like most greg jackson fighters. I wonder if they will meet at a catch weight?

I really dont see GSP getting caught like the other guys that Silva has knocked out. HE is just as quick if not quicker. Of course, anyone can get caught, but on paper, I just dont see it.
Now, that brings us to the ground game. Silva is well trained in jiu jitsu but doesnt doesnt really show it in his fights. GSP has the best takedowns in the game right now. Silva took a lot of punishment from Sonnen (even juiced up), and was only able to win with a last minute triangle. I dont see GSP getting lazy and gassed like Sonnen did. Assuming that GSP is able to neutralize Silva's standup with speed, then I would think that GSP could win on the ground. The BIG wild card in all of this is Silva's mental status. If he really puts his mind to it, I dont think anyone can beat him. He is just sick with some of these moves he comes up with. But he doesnt seem to be into as much. Maybe a big fight with GSP will motivate him to show his true top level talent, but Im not convinced. GSP is a very smart fighter who will stick to his game plan. So if an unmotivated Silva shows up, GSP wins it. |

but for the most part we agree on how the fight would pan out Would be cool to see a 170 tourney to determine the new champ since GSP has said he has no intention of going back to 170 if he makes the jump to 185 |

If you watch the end of the fight, right before he got caught, Chael was just sitting up throwing these weakass hammer fists that werent doing any damage. Then he stuck his head in and got caught. So he did gas at the end, but he had been working his ass off so Im not bashing him for that. Now I do think he is a piece of crap for using steroids; guess he should have been on the treadmill longer reather than going in to get more juice in his ass.

A few of Silva's most recent combatants seem to have revealed some weaknesses of his...
I think if you take someone of GSP's stature, he will capitalize on those weaknesses, he knows how to finish fights, not just wound his opponent, but rather put them away. I like GSP, but you can not count out the Spider!

Gsp will take him down easily but that won't be enough in a five round fight against silva. Gsp has absolutely nothing in his arsenal to hurt silvas far superior chin. Gsp is strong at ww and at mw he will be average. His only chance is a decision win. Silva has always came out on top against world class wrestlers so i will go with the statistics and go with silva.

Silva.
GSP won't be able to lay and pray on him. No way GSP can out strike Silva. I can see Silva defending the takedowns (not all but some). Everyone keeps bashing Silva but all he does is win (I guess the same can be said for GSP). It will be an interesting fight for sure. I want GSP to beat Shields just so this fight can happen.

I really don't know who's going to win this one.
Anderson vs Chael though, Anderson had rib injury.

I gotta say, I would be worried for GSP as I stated above, you can never count the Spider out! His striking is second to none, and GSP isnt exactly a big guy... so to keep Silva on the ground will be no easy task.
Both men are extremely intelligent in the octagon!

But thats why I think GSP will win, because he can lay on him for 5 rounds and pull off the win. Although its gonna be hard keeping a healthy Silva on his back for 25 min. if Silva cant KO him, GSP will win in a decision |

yea, it sux. makes MMA boring. But you cant blame those fighters, like they saying goes, if you dont like it, do something about it. Im sure as MMA evolves, we'll see less and less of this, since fighters will become better wrestlers all around

GSP. I just can't hate the guy - he's one of the few true gentleman and sportsmans in the league these days.
Other guys talk trash - GSP walks quietly and just unleashes in the ring where it counts. I think that's the mark of a truly great athlete. |

GSP has the best wrestling in the UFC. And that is Andersons weak spot. Chael was a great wrestler, but he did get tired and was not smart. GSP is highly intelligent and NEVER gets tired. GSP also determines where the fights go.
BJ was suppose to be the hardest guy to take down, and he took him down and dominated. Hardy and Koscheck were suppose to have better hands and GSP out punched them. GSP plans better than anyone else and he won't get caught up in Andersons antics about waving his arms wanting him to get close. GSP is the most intelligent and well prepared fighter in the UFC and the best wrestler. A combination that will take down the Spider. |
