Google Fi phone?

Who has it?
Do you like it?
How much do you travel domestically, consistent service?
Rural coverage? (wilderness)

The coverage maps claim that I should be fine if I make the switch. But the same maps say I should have better coverage with verizon than I actually do. So I don't have much faith in them. I'd really like to save on my bill while getting better service.
I'm really not concerned with coverage in city areas. I don't think that's ever an issue with anyone. it's the rural coverage and traveling coverage that's of concern. Does it work in Kansas? (damn black hole of no coverage from anyone). Does it work at the top of mountains? Does it work in wilderness areas / national forests?

Like being tracked? Things like that are what the gummint plans on using to track your driving when they implement their mileage tax.

I assume you're talking about a cell phone in general, right? Because if you think there's any difference in how you can be tracked between Google Fi and any other cell service provider, I got news for you..

I've had it for ages. Not great rurally (but friends phones only marginally better) but good in and around any city.

International travel is awesome though, you basically get t mobiles $120 magenta plan. I land in a new country and it's just active. Data rates stay the same, texts are usually free and as is wifi calling. I don't make a ton of calls when traveling so the rates (which are fair) don't really matter.

I have had Fi for many years, only minor issue was when the TMobile/Sprint merger was happening from a tech network side. I left ATT long ago and would never get Verizon. Use to pay for only data used and my bill was $30-50 a month, wife has always had ATT and I have had slight edge in when only 1 of us had service in a difficult area. Just switched into the best unlimited plan and thats only like $60/month, the taxes & fees are much less than the major, and in any plan tethering has always been free. ATT, Verizon, etc now want to lock you up in 3 yr contracts and all those great rates you see are for 4 line accts and/or being a home customer of some type, so deceptive. Part of the reason I got pissed was phone deals used to only be for new customers, recently they started existing customers, wife just found out she can get a new Pixel7Pro on ATT but has to do 3yr and switch into one of their latest unlimited plans which surely suckers you somehow.

Not all phones are compatible, just saw the Moto Edge+ isnt for some reason. They have diff guidelines than others mostly around bloatware & stuff, so happy the unlocked phones I get for Fi have no carrier bloatware and you can control manufacturer bloatware. If you have a ATT Verizon etc phone you are being tracked more than anyone, even with the best privacy settings. First thing I do everytime I get a new phone is delete FB and other stupid apps I don't use, which you can not do on most phones. Like above the international is great, wife always has to pay a ton for it, and free to me.

Yeah full functionality isn't guaranteed. I know some people who are happy with iphones and whatnot on it but realistically you're gonna get the best experience using a pixel phone because its software is designed to float across the networks and use the wifi calling. "Non-compatible" phones are stuck on tmobile and cant wifi call.

Didn't know some phones couldn't wifi call on Fi, thats another reason I left ATT because back then they said the only phones that could wifi call for them were ATT phones not unlocked ones.
