All 2026 cars: Cameras AND remote disabling

https://hothardware.com/news/bidens-...ar-kill-switch

“…by 2026, vehicles sold in the US will be required to automatically and silently record various metrics of driver performance, and then make a decision, absent any human oversight, whether the owner will be allowed to use their own vehicle. Even worse, the measure goes on to require that the system be "open" to remote access by "authorized" third parties at any time.”

This particular provision has been described as "disturbingly short on details". There isn't any doubt that the implementation of this legislation will be challenged, delayed, and even eliminated in a new future legislation. To be continued.

Why? I doubt very seriously anyone here would support such intrusive and offensive government behavior. We ain’t North Korea.

The next Amendment to the Constitution should be, "No Bill of legislation enactacted after ratification of this Amendment shall exceed 6 pages in length".

Back in the Spring there was a horrible Tesla wreck that oddly enough was a guy I talked to 2 times in a neighborhood where I was replacing roofs at. The driver and passenger were both in the back of the car which led to speculation of Autopilot being engaged. The car was completely burned to a crisp and barely identifiable. Elon confirmed they knew every move of that car and even in the height of the investigation publicly stated Autopilot was definitely not a factor in the crash.

Now just imagine the liability you're potentially exposed to with such a software, but you've got some seriously concrete data to publicly shut down the rumor while the investigation is still fresh.

https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2021/04/19/ceo-elon-musk-responds-to-deadly-tesla-crash-in-the-woodlands/

Teslas are also nearly impossible to steal for the same reason and the network can take control of the care and even let authorities know real time data.

This is what happens when less-than-intelligent+greedy ppl outnumber the rest, buying into those insurance driving-habits devices to shortsightedly save a few bucks (w the insurers laughably saying it won't be used against them), setting a dangerous trend of what are the genpop tolerances.

I have a funny story on this. When those devices first popped up years ago I was young and didn't realize what I was signing up for and it was with progressive. I read on it and by the time I received it I sent it back and found a different carrier. Fast forward 2 yrs laster I get a letter from a collections company for $100 for the device they apparently never received back and a service I never used. Literally wasted time to get them to correct the error and fought to get the collections item for $100 freaking dollars pulled off my credit. So annoying wasting all that time for something so stupid.

I agree with you. It very much seems like we are actually asking them to do it. However if they do do it you know darn right well they will sneak it in.

Let’s talk about your signature real quick. Less than 20% of Americans who are millionaires inherited it. 80% or more are self-made. And America is not a democracy thank God almighty. We are a republic. In total freedom it’s very complicated to blame others for one’s own predicament. Oh believe me I know they try but those of us who know better realize they are only whining. Carry on.

It's not just the US of A, I suspect that this is something that will get widespread support from lots of governments globally. The same ones who are really enjoying the current restrictions being placed on various other freedoms. One only needs to look at Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Canuckistan just to name a few.

I am not trying to turn this into a political discussion BTW, but this really is a discussion about government control of people. And this is not new. The UK has been proposing speed limiters on all cars produced in or after 2022.
