Also, to any Miami folks here, my wife and I came up with an idea to drive down to the keys as further south as we can go and give out canned goods/can openers and bottled water as they are helpless. We plan to do this on Saturday morning and we have enough canned goods for about a week for us and bottled water, however, we would need more. We will be trying to score some at whatever stores are open by Friday evening, pack up the 335 and head south. If anyone wants to help/donate please let me know.

No power yet. Grrrr. Dukes automated system has only 21 reported outages in my area. Wtf. There's 81 homes in my neighborhood alone ad several other neighborhoods in the area down also. The problem is they are doing it in number of reports priority so it looks like we're not going to get it for a while. One person on a neighborhood board posted the 17th. Been sleeping at the in-laws. I work from the house and its pure commission so this is costing me. Not happy.

My son wants to know if he can send you money so you can take more food with you?

I'm teaching him how to trust people so i didn't explain to him how this would work exactly.

Is there something you can take in to your car with you that is important and you maybe could post a picture of that would cost 20 bucks?

He is seven, but i would much appreciate if you would let him help.

As others have mentioned, getting anywhere near the keys is off limits as of now which sucks as we really do want to drive there this weekend and contribute whatever we can. Heck, we'll even help moving debris around and give them necessities that are desperately needed.

It is the family way. I'm pretty damn proud that for two weeks straight he is giving his allowance (if he wants to buy candy, his 2 euros per week is what he can use, if he wants to buy a toy, i pay 40 percent the first week, 50% the second, and so on if he saves his money to get the toy). If he donates his money, all of the two euros, i will make it 10x and donate myself a bit to something too.

But honestly, tampons, tooth brushes tooth paste. Everyone always forget those. If you can take in stuff or we can figure out money (no tampon pics required!) my little man would be happy.

You'd be doing me a favor. Please consider.

Glad he wants to donate but feel somewhat shameful for taking his money, even though its a great cause. Tell you what, whenever we do make it down, I'll post pics of what we can take down (no tampon pics). Also, not sure if sending money through PayPal internationally would be a killer with fees

Hahaha, i was thinking more like an amazon gift card thing or something, but it's such a small amount, it isn't worth your trouble. I will donate via what ever is recommended here (i asked earlier recommendations in this thread) but to make it cool for the kid, please post a few pics of a bimmer and stuff.

I'm really proud that he wants to participate. In that age they don't know how much or little something is but as a parent i think the intent is more important than the result.

Understandably good intent but attempting to drive down on your own to support in that manner increases the burden. For those that care to donate privately, several large ships and larger personal aircraft will be permitted to transport goods in bulk as soon as the initial public relief personnel are positioned on site and have adequately restored basic services.
