Baseball Cards
Well, I guess baseball cards aren't worth the paper they're printed on!
I have sooooo many from the 80s and 90s - and a bunch from the 70s that I got at a garage sale when I was a kid. I'm 29 now. They're worth NOTHING. I had these high hopes that if I held on to them, they would be worth something. There goes my retirement.

Yeah, I was curious awhile back about how much my old sets are worth and was surprised to see they're not worth dick now. I should've sold them when I was a kid, could've had sega genesis AND super nintendo.

I hear you. I had all kinds of cards. Off the top of my head I can remember a Griffey Jr Donruss Rated Rookie, some old O-Pee-chee hockey cards, and numerous signed football cards, stemming from about 1982 on through the mid-late '90s. I remember I had a Willie Stargell card as well, makes me feel old.
You're right, none of it is worth shit now anyway. But my situation is somewhat better than my Dad's. He had three of those coveted Mickey Mantle cards (forget what year), and he ended up giving his card collection away to his Polish cousin because he was moving out and didn't care to keep them. There were a bunch of other good ones in there too. |

haha im an avid baseball fan, im very good friends with colby rasmus which you should know who that is montego, baseball cards are worthless if they arent rare. willie mays, joe d, mickey, marris, ruth, cal ripken jr, kirk gibson etc...all people who did something spectacular, any autograph from joe d is 500+ and the least

It's because it's baseball. America's most boring sport. Only watched and attended by women and rednecks. Flame on.
You should have invested in Marvel Comic cards, apparently the nerds are raking in the cash. |

Well I think the sanctity of the sport has been ruined lately too. That's a big part of it. The Free Agency Era of Designer Drugs has gotten out of control.

Honestly, all they need to do is cut the total number of games by 1/3. Make each game worth something and more hype would come.

pro baseball is nothing like football, these are the best of the best and have been weaved from the finest group of guys, they are already good, all they have to do is hit in the cage, bp, and take a few grounders and they are ready to play, not practice for a week leading to the game

but honestly i miss those triple headers with sammy and arod and mcguire where they were hitting 5 homers in two days, that brought excitement, but it excites me more to see it done the natural way, hit and run, basehit single for the run etc...

Lol yeah but I have a special reason for hating "smallball". I'm a Tigers fan and I'm sick of the fkn Twins and their perfect smallball game.

I hear ya'll... long story short... wife's brother dies 3 years ago... leaves her his sports card collection (predominately baseball) with cards from teens through '90's (including a mint Ted Williams rookie card). Took me a year and a half to index the entire collection which fills a 3 drawer file cabinet (wide drawers) plus boxes all over (129 boxes). We're thinking we will have to keep it another 10 years or so until the buyers re-enter the collector market. He also left her a collection of Playboys from the 60's-70's.

I'm with the rest of ya.
I'll just hang on to them. You never know. Some day they may go back up. Damn the good old days. I was so obsessed with collecting and baseball back then I knew stats for just about everyone. |
