that's where the 5DmkII has been a winner in my book. It may not be as sharp as the 7D, but it's 98% as sharp. And when you shoot at 6400, you can still crop in a bit before it becomes a problem.
The 7D actually has much more detail than the 5D MkII or III, thanks to its industry leading pixel-density (beats the D800). It'll stand cropping better than the any of the 5Ds, up to its noise limits. My default nature shooting ISO is 800 and I routinely shoot at ISO 1600 and crop 50% to 80%. The resolution is fine on my 24" monitor at full screen and stands up to book printing up to 11x30".

Most people are not nature photographers and don't value detail as much as I do and they're more focused on noise. This is where the 5Ds will shine, but at the expense of detail.

BTW, I will buy a 5D3 to replace my 5D2, but mainly for the better AF and fps. The 5D2 already has excellent noise performance.

And why is it so different then what was coming out of the old 1D cameras? or is it more the lens/camera correction information that's the issue?
This is always the case with new cameras. Same thing with the 5D Mark II when it was released.

I got my 5D MK III today, but I haven't had a chance to do any test shots. I do know that I the controls and ergonomics are improved greatly. I love how everything is laid out.

cool... I can't wait to take this camera out the rest of the day just to shoot.

Btw, the silent shooting mode is insanely good.

Kai is up to his usual antics in this video review. FF to 6:30 even if you don't want to listen to the entire review.

I don't really like asian girls. But I do make exceptions, and she would be one of those I better get a mkIII so I can get a date with her.

video guy said he wouldn't upgrade with his own money. ha.

i want to see how clean 6400 is in video. and 12800.
and if the AF is good enough, could replace my D3 and my 5D rental fees.

holy shit. that's a clean 6400. what you're seeing there is the compression artifacts, not so much the noise.
wow.

Makes me almost want to start filming everything I see....

That's a big difference, and interesting about the post sharpening.

Makes me wonder how post sharpening on still images will be in comparison to the 5DmkII as well...

sharpness for the video still sucks, but shouldn't be a problem with stills at all, since those aren't downsampled.

didn't seem too bad once he added sharpening, but I mean, it wasn't amazing, and I watched it on a 55" screen. So I'm fairly impressed, I figure most people aren't going to see it that big. (maybe in 5 years when everyone has at least a 60")

problem I have with the video, because you have such an extreme contrast between background and lights, the one thing that would tell me the most is out of focus. The silver part of the light is the most neutral colour/tone you see, and it's not in focus, and that's probably going to be the most important part (along with the black, but there really isn't any black)

Maybe a video of a picture might make it easier to tell. Hard to say.

yeah, that's probably true. I pretty much focused at the center of the frame once, and kept that same exact focusing for both cameras and all the videos.

I can do some more next week.

I have a pretty cool video in the works right now, that I'll probably make live by Monday.
