I'll give you the "passionate enthusiast" part, you definitely fit that profile. But to say that you are "informed" about a car that is a year away and that most of the information available on forums is pure gossip, you lost me there.

Also don't forget the competition, there will be at least two cars going against the M3 by 2008. I certainly plan to look at them before locking down the M3.

I am defintiely not one to say I know for sure, in advance of a cars release, what it's specs will be. If you cruise around on this board you will see I am quite quick to criticize folks who seem to swear they know about specs when all of us know almost nothing for sure (damn it sure is fun to make educated guesses, though). I simply beleive history will repeat itself and by knowing (and owning) quite a bit of the history I'd say I am fairly well informed. Glad we are ending this small debate on better terms. Cheers.

Blah, blah, blah. This is turning into an silly argument.

E92 M3 Chassis =

1) MUCH MORE seam wedling and closer spacing on the spot welds. Increasing chassis ridgity 4893274238955%

2) Much beefier suspension components (control arms, braces, etc...)

3) Lighter weight materials used, as compared to its non-M siblings. (Carbon fiber, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, u get the idea)

The M3 chassis and suspension alone is enough to justify it against the 335i with $20K in upgrades.

Not to mention. When your in the office and you tell your buddies that you drive an M3 as opposed to saying I drive a 335i with 20K in upgrades.

Hopefully this gives justice to the M3 > 335i argument.

Don't waste your time with Cali dealers. I don't think this forum has any sponsoring dealers, but I know of 2 sponsoring dealers on other BMW boards that will get you on their list at MSRP, no games. Go out of state!

I'll second that. When its time to buy the new car I will take a trip to visit the family back in St. Louis. I have a dealer there I have worked with for years. I pick up the car, have something to drive while I am there, and then a nice little roadtrip back home with the new toy.

OTD?

In the cases I know of it was simply MSRP + options. It was left up to the customer to decide how to pay and that had no effect on the price.

Discounts were readily available on the E46 M3 after the initial rush was over if you were willing to shop around. As for the E92, it will be tough to get a discount on the early ones unless you either know someone at a dealer or have earned a discount through the purchase of multiple cars at the same dealer. Not impossible though.

Wow, M cars rarely see discounts, unless they are trying to get rid of a model year or when the model has been discontinued...

What kind of discounts did you see around? I haven't heard of anybody getting an M car with a discount. However I have heard of the price going down at unsuccessful dealers...

Don't take this the wrong way, but there's no point in thinking about price now for a car you're buying in 2010 and wondering what the discount will be.

Bob Smith BMW in Calabasas has a strict policy of NEVER marking up there cars, regardless of which car it is .

If some dealer told you there'd be a $20K mark up either A) He's a fvcking clown and doesn't know $hit or B) GET A NEW DEALER

well...just looking at the E46...you might get a ball park idea
if no one is getting any discount then you can forget about it
if people are getting 3k-5k discount....you might be able to expect that too

there's no harm to get more financial information rite?
