May be I missed this somewhere in the thread what happens in the following senario:

Both you and your SO approach the car and enter it... you start the car... which key profile will the CA use?

I am assuming functions like radio presets and possible mirror and seat memory are tied to a key's profile.

TIA

Here you go...

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5854

It will take the settings for the key that opened up the driver's side door...

I don't know if this has been answered yet in this thread, but can comfort access be installed on an e90 not equipped with it originally? I'm not to familiar with BMW's and I was told by a dealership it cannot be done.

It's great you got searching down - now read the thread. It has been answered.

But because I'm nice, I'll answer again.

NO. Comfort Access cannot be retrofitted. It needs to many things.
Each wiring harnes is custom made to each vehicle. To retrofit CA you would need a new wiring harnes, new door handles, all the antenna's, a new key set etc etc etc. It would be so pricey it becomes unreasonable to fit.

Can't be done. Some people have tried to figure what it would take. All end up figuring out the time and money to accomplish this would be way more than selling the non-CA car for a loss and buying a new one with CA.

CA is integrated into the computer and touches many critical systems in the car. It has wiring and sensors that are run when the car is just a shell. To retrofit would be so expensive that it is not worth it for anyone to take on the task.

Have not seen this question raised so far:-

With Comfort Access, if by chance the trunk is accidentally left slightly open / ajar, will the car still lock as per normal (e.g. as if the trunk is closed)?

Or is there some way the vehicle will inform you that the trunk is open?

I actually like the way it works. I keep my door unlock option set to "driver's door only". When I go somewhere with my SO her fob unlocks her door without changing my settings or me having to unlock her door. Yes chivalry is dead in our house.

I don't know if the US Spec is different, but I am pretty sure it's the same as my Euro Spec car.

If you lock the car and the boot (trunk) is open (either wide open, or closed - but not properly closed) the doors WILL lock, but you will not get the confirmation flash of the indicators and the clown nose (red light under the mirror) will turn on (solid - not flashing). This is your signal that the car isn't closed properly. I usually make sure to look at the side marker near the drivers door when locking. If it flashed, everything is locked and OK.

When you close the open boot/door the car gives you the flashing turn signals.

If you lock your keys in the trunk with CA - it will beep twice and unlock the trunk.

You are correct. The US Spec cars will lock the doors, but will not acknowledge the lock by flashing until you close the trunk.

If you do this with a door, it wont lock the doors until all doors are closed.

If you have I'Drive you can make the setting changes by yourself. No need to take it in.

Nikki, I think that only the owner of the car can unlock the passenger door. I don't think that your passenger (mom, dad, boyfriend/girlfriend) can touch any of the door handle and unlock the door. Say u are the owner, if you touch the door handle on the passenger side, all doors unlock. Otherwise, i agreed with u and I do not want my passenger to be able to unlock my car door. If they can, I don't want CA.
Anyone can unlock/lock the doors as long as the person who is holding the keys are with in the range by someone trying to open the door. I let my son lock/unlock the doors while standing beside them.

Really? How does this work?

Plus, follow-up question: I've had my car for about a month now, 2.5k miles. I rarely (if ever) charge the FOB, as it seems like the manual implied the CA FOB is not rechargeable like the normal one.

Anyway, drop the car off at the dealer for my first oil change yesterday, take it back and the next few times I start the car, I get a warning saying the key is not present or malfunctioning. A few presses of the start button and it eventually kicks in (with the no-key, no-startup warning still displayed).

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a sign that my FOB really does need a charge?

The CA fob isn't rechargeable. Non-CA fobs recharge in the slot but not the same for CA fobs.

I've had the no-key thing happen sometimes after I had already started the car while still inside it. Putting it in the slot makes it go away but defeats the purpose. Only happened a few times recently but I'm guessing my battery probably needs a change. It's been a little over a year since I got it and I haven't changed the batteries yet so that might be the issue but otherwise no issues so maybe just a fluke or it will start to occur more often which would surely indicate the battery is dying.

If your CA FOB battery is dying, you should get an alert in your cluster/idrive.

Comfort Access is great but confuses me jumping from car to car. Rembering to have the key in the car or on me is sometimes tough
