Kimi Räikkönen will return to Formula.
Kimi Räikkönen will return to Formula 1 in 2012, it has been officially confirmed. Following a sabbatical of two years, the World Champion of 2007 makes his comeback with Lotus Renault GP.

Great news nonetheless, but doesn't matter if Renault produced a shitty car again....
I presume Lotus Renault signed a deal with Magnum Ice Cream too!!!

This is surprising, but not unwelcome. Glad to hear he is back into F1. I wonder how Renault is funding Raikkonen, since I'm sure he wasn't a pay driver. Nor is he cheap.
Although, my thoughts drift towards Bruno Senna. I would very much for him to have a drive next year. Grosjean, I could do without.

So are we seeing Petrov demoted to reserve driver? I think he's done a pretty decent job given the crappy car in mid-season and just jump in Spa. He's more or less on par with what Petrov can achieve, with less experience with the car itself.

Kimi Räikkönen (until end of 2013)
- Vitaly Petrov (until end of 2012) - Bruno Senna (candidate if Petrov deal falls through) - Romain Grosjean (candidate if Petrov deal falls through)

I think it's a good choice. Had Kubica not had his accident, I'm confident he would have made frequent podium visits as he's been a solid driver for years and with worse cars. Kimi is a very capable driver and if the car is up to par, he will produce.
I just can't wait for the interviews. The sport is certainly lacking in icy, non-descriptive, monotone race color

Hmm... strange conclusion as they had 2 podiums without him and he's a much better driver than Petrov or Heidfeld.

How can you properly develop a car without consistent driver input? They designed a car around Kubica which was then driven by a revolving door of drivers, none of whom have his experience or talent. Senna achieved decent results from the car, making it into several Q3s, and he's very green in the sport so I remain confident that Kubica would have been fighting for podiums even late in the season.

Precisely my point. I just hope they aren't so far into the 2012 development that they can't tailor the car around him (a la Schumi in Button's Brawn aka Mercedes last year).

I'd guess Kubica would've get a few podiums in early seasons. But definitely not in the last 2/3...

Renault actually was "good" in the second half. I believe the car was comparable to Ferrari but with far inferior driving talent, they stood no chance. Heck, Bruno Senna made it to Q3 a few times! With an uninjured Kubica at the helm, I still believe the team was a contender but chose to abandon the season and focus on 2012. You can't rotate drivers mid-season and expect great results. The car could have evolved and the season could have been different but I honestly think they threw in the towel.
