Price isn't right
Just saw the Sawx signed David Price to a 7yr/$217M deal. He's a good pitcher, not a great pitcher. I'm just glad the Yankees didn't sign him

I'm a little shocked myself, considering the Sox wouldn't sign Lester to a much smaller deal. Price may be worth $31mil in years 1 and 2 and maybe 3, but beyond that I think they're going to regret this signing. And while he might get a team to the post season, he's not proven to be an asset *in* the post season.
Same thing I thought when the Yankees signed Ellsbury, btw. How's that working out for them? Risking major bucks on a long term deal in sports where injuries can end seasons early is lunacy. But that is apparently what it takes to get top talent these days. Credit guys like Boras for changing the mindsets of money-conscious owners.

Ellsbury has been a bust and the Yankees have only won one WS in the last fifteen (15) seasons. It's seems that now they are righting the ship but it'll take time. Just wait till Harvey hits FA as he isn't staying in Flushing and he'll command $250M.

Damm! Question is, Sox have no bullpen, closer, their defense is so, so, and where is the offense coming from? Do glad Yankees didn't sigh him. It shows Price is going for the money, not a chance to win chchampionships. Who's the Evil Empire now?

Sox just signed Kimbrel, so between him and Koji, they should be set for a closer. They need more arms in the BP, though. If they can dump Ramirez and Panda shapes up, they should be ok on defense. They'll have one of the best outfields in baseball unless they trade one of them away for another starting pitcher, which is very possible.

These clubs are stupid enough to sign for 7 years, without a clause that says if you get hurt we only pay a tiny fraction of that amount, are they?

Contracts in MLB aren't like the NFL unfortunately.

There is a 3 year out clause. So glad the Yanks didn't sign him as well.

I'm happy Toronto didn't give him a deal like that, he's a good pitcher but deals like that don't usually work out in the long run.
I'm hoping they stick to their guns and do something simliar to last season, sit back and see how the first half goes and if they have a contending team, pick up talent before the trade deadline like how they got price in the first place.

The Price is WRONG (Bitch), what a missed title opportunity (happy gilmore for those who don't know)
also, terrible deal for bosox but Price did his job securing his finances for the rest of his life as long as he doesn't go spending like michael jackson |

If they continue to lose waiting for a full roster of prospects, fans are pissed. If they trade prospects for proven players, fans say they got screwed. If they sign a free agent for a bunch of money, fans say they overpaid. They paid what he needed to sign and filled out the top of the rotation. He's better than Lester and while I'd prefer to see a deal for less than 7 years I think that would never happen. Greinke got 6 years at higher AAV. I certainly prefer the Price signing to the dynamic douchebags from last year (Ramirez and Sandoval).
Sox got a top of the rotation starter and one of the best closers in the game. They will be better in 2016. They have plenty of money to spend and plenty of prospects to deal. Will Price be at the top of his game in the back 1/2 of the contract? Of course not, but by then the market will be even higher and they'll be ok with him in the middle of the rotation with someone else taking the top spot.

Going rate for top pitchers. Sabathia's deal looks bad now also, but I feel was worth it for the quality pitching on the front end. Price is a horse who will eat up innings and stop losing streaks. Wouldn't have been upset if the Yankees signed him. Looking forward, there aren't many big name free agent pitchers coming up. Harvey won't be eligible until 2018 and who knows what he will be like by then or if he hasn't already been extended.

Harvey won't extend with the Mets. That relationship is going sour and I can see him being traded for a big young bat and the Mets future would consist of said bat, DeGrom, Noah, Matz and a questionable Wheeler.

Yes I can see that scenario occurring. The question becomes do the Yankees even get a shot at Harvey. Boras is the agent, so I can see a situation where any team that trades for him, can't resign him. We'll see.

I liked the trade the Sox made today. Building the bullpen with a young, effective arm in exchange for Miley, who can throw for 200 innings / year but is not a difference-maker.

I like the moves DD has made so far. Hope he keeps it up and doesn't give away the farm.

I guess Yankees are no longer the " Evil Empire." Last year signing of H.Ramirez, and Sandoval, and now Price. Red Sox didn't learn from the Yankees, that money can't guarantee championships.
