When do you replace an RE71?
It looks there is a wear bar between the center treads. Do you go all the to that point?
My outer edges are really chewed up. Is there post somewhere to help newbies understand the RE 71? Thx |

Or, when the tire has become hard enough that it no longer grips to your satisfaction. Time, heat cycles, and storage conditions all affect the rate at which a tire hardens.
I use the 'fingernail test' on my performance tires. That is, I test them by regularly pressing my fingernails into the tread rubber. This gives me direct feedback regarding the rate at which they're becoming harder. Ambient temperature has an effect, so when possible it's useful to do these checks at the same temperature.

It depends on whether you are willing to flip your tires or not. Flipping tires takes the worn side and flips it to the inside where the tire is not in prime contact when you realize camber gain at the extremes. If I am going to flip a set, I'll go roughly 3-4k miles and 50-60 runs, and then flip knowing that first event post flip will suck. This allows you to get about 7-8k miles and about 120 competitive runs out of a set. The BS are pretty good down to the very last bit 2/32's which is below the first wear bars.
