2011 335i Sedan HPFP Fail!
And yet the dreaded HPFP issue claims another victim: my 2011 335i sedan, with barely 4500 miles.
No problems this morning driving to work, but when I started my car up after work, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Okay. Made it home just fine, googled the problem...and hey maybe my gas cap was loose..so I tightened the cap, hit the start button, and noticed my car was idling really low. WTF. I stopped and started a few times (no long crank, but idle drops to under 500 RPMS...!), then finally there it is..the dreaded HALF ENGINE error, followed by the half power info on the Nav screen. Dammit all to hell. It's Thursday, and the local Dealership won't have an opening until Monday. Need to call to make sure I get a loaner, but man...this sucks! |

My bad...I thought by 2011 they would have revised or evolved the pump to be sturdy...

No worries brother, they have gone through god knows how many revisions throughout the life span of N54 and N55 but I still love the car. What can I say I'm a sucker for it. By the way, love your e90 man.

Ugh..you know, I read about the fuel pumps but for some reason I too thought BMW would get that all sorted out....NOPE! Live and learn...but i've read good posts and bad..one fix..good to go..but some people had to go back numerous times in short time spans! So after three attempts..i can try to get BMW NA to buy my baby back....!

I never had the problem and had the recall done right before the hurricane....knock on wood still no problems with the hpfp since. Not really sure what the root cause is, I thought that thing was behind BMW. Are we saying it still plagues new 535s and 740s and x5s and x3s and z4s as well, and they keep using this turbo model across the lineup?

I like the way all the OP basically said is that he has a SES light and speculates it might be the HPFP (similar to "I have a bump" on Google ---> cancer), and the entire thread turns into an HPFP bashing thread

You got a point, valvetronic could be a reason also.

The N55 has had a few known cases of HPFP failure, just not nearly as widespread as the N54. And even with the N54, it wasn't like they all went bad. This HPFP thing seems to be like a ghost issue that BMW just can't figure out. Replacing it doesn't mean the problem will go away, I think its a matter of other parts each having some small part in contribution which builds up and leads to the failure.
