34" Ultrawide Recommendation

Good afternoon guys,

I know this has been discussed many times but this is unique to my current setup. I'm looking for a 34" monitor to place my previous triple Asus VG248QE setup (144hz, 1ms, 24"). I play some FPS such as Doom Eternal, BF1, Half-Life 2 based games and primarily my gaming/sim is Assetto Corsa Competizione and Flight Simulator 2020. I have a Next Level Racing F-GT racing rig and for now I will have a table that goes over the rig to have the monitor in the same spot that the monitor stand from NLR would go.

PC specs:

i7700k

16gb G.Skill Flare X 3200

Gigabyte Z270 motherboard

Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super

Budget: $500 (including tax unless there is a monitor right at the $500 mark that's worth it). I would love to have a 43" or a 49" ultrawide but they are out of budget (unless you can convince me otherwise for another $200 or so added on)

Want: At least a 34" ultrawide QHD monitor (preferably curved). Ideally 100hz+ on the display and it must be at 1440 resolution. I will be using Display Port to connect to it. I don't care about built in speakers since I use a Hyper-X headset or my Logitech Z623 speakers with a Creative soundcard. I do not play eSports or play competitively. Just want more real estate and good performance for my racing/flight sims.

The models I did look at so far have been these:

34"

AOC CU34G2X (144hz, curved, 1ms - but online reviews say it's realistically 4ms) $430
Asus VP348QGL (75hz, flat, 4ms) $450
MSI MAG341CQ (100hz, curved, 8ms GTG) $460 was $40 at microcenter for July/Aug
Samsung S34J550WQN (75hz, flat, 4ms) $430 was $380 at microcenter for July/Aug
LG 34WN750-B (75hz, flat, 5ms) $500
43"

- Samsung C43J890 (120hz, flat, 5ms) $750

I have the Asus PG348Q, but that's a little higher than your budget. I loved it, although I've recently migrated my whole environment to a 55 inch Samsung Q70T TV with a power recliner and I can't say I miss the ultrawide monitor that much. Filling up your entire central vision with screen is hard to beat.

If I was to give any feedback, with a RTX 2070, you're going to want the highest refresh rate display you can get for your budget. I'd also say G-Sync is more or less a must. Never dealing with screen tearing is the best feature you can get on PC gaming. You're not going to be satisfied with 75 Hz refresh rate if you're at 144 Hz now. If you were local I'd just sell you my Asus monitor for that price, but I threw away the box and the curved display makes shipping too high of a risk.

ntg44 Yea I was debating the whole refresh rate situation. I have been running 85hz on my 24" monitor to get used to a lower refresh rate and it's ok... I think I might get the LG 34UC88-B for $600 if I can afford the extra, if not there's a few Samsungs/AOC/Acer/MSI in the sub $500 range.

So I did some quick shopping and found this:

https://www.microcenter.com/product/...or?storeID=025

It's $700, but it's got 120 Hz and G-Sync. I say try to pony up the extra 2 bills and buy this one. G-Sync changed the game for me.

Thanks man, I'll check it out and look at the reviews. I also need to check out the g-sync. I know my Asus has it but I don't use it.

I have this Alienware 34" 1440p 120hz... I like it. Think it was only $850 or something like that. I would buy again. This is a temp corner setup in the living room while I'm renovating the media room.

This is a solid option for your budget Its out of stock right now but looks like they'll have more later this week.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=40776

I run 3 of the 27" 1440p 144hz monitors from here and have been extremely happy with them on my sim rig.

They also have a 49" version of the same monitor, but its well over your budget ($899). Still a very good price for what you're getting. Maybe shop around, you could find a better deal.

I would really suggest you save up a bit more money and buy an IPS 120hz+ monitor with GSync or FreeSync 2 from the game list you provided. Which means spending $750 to $1000. The monitor is one of the most important pieces and it also has the longest life span and highest resale value of all your main components. This is the piece, if any, you should invest in.

I would highly recommend something like a LG 34GK950F-B which is $900.

Look for a used Acer X34 Predator on Ebay or something.

Fantastic monitor I used for a couple years before getting my current ASUS PG35VQ.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. Duly noted on spending more to get a better quality panel. My Asus VG248QE's I was able to sell for pretty much what I paid about five years ago

I got this one and am VERY pleased with it. Tons of options and no premium. This listing has gotten odd and prices are high, but I bought this around April and it was in the $400s which I thought was fantastic.

I use a 34" Ultrawide for professional work, so I have the LG 34UM95, it doesn't have the high refresh rate but I needed color accuracy more than refresh rate. I use it for CoD and other FPS games and generally I'm pretty happy with it, I personally am not sensitive enough to ultra high framerates, but I know some people are really thrown off by that latency.

The lower res 1080P screens I feel like are way too low res if you're sitting close, but if refresh rate is your top priority then less pixels will always be faster and less taxing on your GPU.

I think the bigger thing is the 2070 Super pushing all those extra pixels that an ultrawide introduces, depending on the game you might get bottlenecked by the GPU

Considering the OP has 3 x 1080p @ 144Hz monitors already, a single 1440p 21:9 monitor will be an fps improvement over 3k resolution, roughly 1 million less pixels to push. My 1080Ti averages 70-80 fps at max detail on basically any game I throw at it. OP can always disable ray tracing on the 2070 to hit higher.

I missed the part where he's running a triple monitor setup already.

Thanks again everyone for the recommendations.

Due to upcoming expenses early next year I ended up spending less and bought the AOC 34" 144hz monitor. I have been using it for the past week and I am happy with it and it gives me what I need until a later date in the future where I can really splurge on a high end monitor. FPS has been great on the games that I play. It's freaking beautiful in Flight Sim 2020 even though that sim kills a lot of rigs.

Next year I will upgrade my CPU/mobo/gpu and add more ram.

I have the Dell UltraSharp 38 ultrawide monitor that I got through Alienware. It's 3840x1600 at 60Hz. I can run a lot of games on High or Ultra with an RTX 2080 Ti but it's a lot of pixels. So keep in mind that you'll need the best of the best graphics cards and cooling and CPU to attain 4k gaming at high refresh rates.

I've had problems with my monitor. It was broken from new but I can't get Dell to replace it because they absolutely suck. Never get Alienware or Dell anything. I got it for photo and video editing and it works great for that. I don't really care much about anything faster than 60 fps. I love 4k gaming when I'm not doing VR. Image quality is more important to me than fps.

I have a Dell AW3420DW and love it. I would check if there is a successor/newer model of it if you go that route.

Temporary burn-in when left on for many hours at max brightness, highest refresh rate but goes away.
