Thanksgiving

I have to say that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The food. The time spent with family and friends. The walks after dinner. The time to reflect on just how good we have it.

I'm generally a positive person and my wife is the same way. At Thanksgiving we seem to be at our peak. We love hosting Turkey dinner for family and friends. We just feel thankful and lucky to be together with kids that enjoy coming over and grand kids running around.

I saw the quote I'm sharing which is the inspiration for this post and I think it's true.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Ever since I got married, Thanksgiving is the one holiday that I dread! There are three vegetarians among the in-laws, so all food choices have to respect them. This year's twist is that a native American will be joining us, which is great for recreating that historic painting from Plymouth Rock but not when the native Americans now despise non-natives and get triggered by the sight of a turkey or even the words "Happy Thanksgiving."

On the bright side, I did get to [respectfully] eat a nice, rare filet mignon at a restaurant in front of the vegetarians one Thanksgiving.....

Happy thanksgiving to all. A much better holiday now that I don't have to be at the in-laws for it.

You can always run the Adams Family movie for that scene from their Thanksgiving play - should go over well with your Native American friends (if they have even a little sense of humor).

Good one for Thanksgiving. Don’t think I saw that episode, or just don’t remember because, you know, first thing to go. I loved the show, though.

Two vegetarians and an indian for Thanksgiving? Good grief.
I'm pescatarian, so i'd suggest some veggie lazagna (frozen one will do just fine). My family usually hooked me up with some enchiladas as a main course.

Love, love Paul Harvey!! And miss him! What a great little history lesson! btw, we need to add Paul Harvey to the You Know Your Old thread. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of iconic Americana that comes from Chicago.

indeed

Tomorrow we will get together with 100 or so friends at our church. Everyone will bring homemade dishes and bring neighbors and friends.

On Thanksgiving this year my wife and kids will spend time on the beach at a condo with my parents and my sister. We used to get together with my extended family before the Grands passed on both sides. Not sure if that will ever pick back up again or not.

I think you’d have to say he was wise beyond his time. He recorded that in 1965.

btw, not much of what went on in that video took place in the heart of Chicago. I looked through it and most of it took place in the Chatham area on the fairly far south side. I’d like to say more, but I don’t want to totally derail this Thanksgiving thread so I won’t. Another btw, judging from the gas prices I saw while they were at the gas station that wasn’t this year, but last year. This year the Chicago police and city used heavy trucks to block access to a lot of the city where this kind of behavior would be the most disruptive and dangerous. Now I have a better understanding of why they did that.

This is my favorite BAKING holiday. I still have my grandma's pumpkin pie recipe that my mom taught me to make. Went out Saturday evening and got all teh supplies for SIX pies, gonna make 4 tonight (work and brothers) then 2 Tuesday night to take with us to wife's side of the family.

For me, it's no longer the mega-eating festival as in yore. A slice of turkey, 2 trips for potatoes/gravy, then first to cut into those pumpkin pies.

OK, who has an opinion on the Popeye's turkey offering? I was considering getting one and deep frying it. . .
