A day late to this thread, but this photo -- taken from one of the attacking Japanese aircraft -- shows an overall view of the attack on the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. Dominating the photo is Ford Island, with battleship row at top. Note the water thrown up from a torpedo hit on a U.S. battleship.
In the midst of all this havoc and destruction, the Japanese aircraft failed to attack a key target at Pearl: The fuel storage tanks visible at top right. Had they done so, the U.S. Navy would have been severely restricted in the initial period of the war.
