Dust-less or at Least Less-Dusty Brake Pads
I suspect some of the brake pad manufacturers have now caught up with street pads for the F80/F82. I am now very tired of the huge amount of dust generated by the stock pads although I am pleased with their performance and lack of any squeaking.
Has anyone found a replacement street pad that they like that is as close to dust-less as possible and does not squeak? Last edited by celler; 12-04-2014 at 09:05 AM.. |

They are as dusty as ever with the exception of the Carbon ceramic ones. For the OP, it's too early to have a wide aftermarket pad selection but when available, the Akebonos Ultra Premium pads are mostly dustless.

Went with the Centric Posi-Quiet semi-metallic about a month ago. So far, so good. Used them on my last M, and they worked very well. Little dust, reasonable cold friction, and no noise. Zeckhausen has them. Do not use these on the track.

I've read that as well. I'm planning to try the Akebonos when they have an option available. Too bad these brakes are still so dusty. With the older BMW's, took about 1 day. Maddening. And I even had the wheels coated.
That's what I remember reading somewhere. |

Bumping this thread to see if anybody has found a solution to the super dusty stock brake pads.
Also, what are people using to clean their brake dust coated rims? Any spray on wheel cleaner that won't damage the clear coat, yet can get the dust off rims w/o wiping and scrubbing? |

installed the centric semi-metallic pads in the rear, and centric ceramic in front last night. obviously if i track the car we'll throw stock back on, but i was excited to try these for the street for dust reasons.
overall im pleased. I've only driven normally so far but i'd say they had 85-90% of the bite of stock, although im sure testing would say stopping distance is a lot worse. ill do some more spirited driving this weekend and report back with more impressions.

Just be very careful with the Stoptech Ceramic pads, they have much less friction and provides much less brake torque than OEM pads. The semi-metallic version is on the same level as the OEM pads as far as friction level and brake torque goes. Their Street Performance pads will have slightly more friction and brake torque along with less dust. The Street Performance line is the best all around pad, although not low dust when comparing to other Stoptech offering, it is lower dust than OEM.

damn it, after driving for 4 days after a wash, it looks like they haven't been washed in 6 months. But the stockies do stop beautifully.
