under carriage ceramic coating?
Never heard of this before. Just stumbled upon a video on Instagram of a detailer apply ceramic coating to a trucks undercarriage.
Anyone have experience with this?

A typical ceramic coating won't last long on an undercarriage. I don't see much of a long term benefit.

Ceramic coating on the plastic panelling? Your undercarriage is a good 80-90% covered, more than most other BMWs.

Undercoating is common for people with trucks and SUVs where I am from but doing it with a ceramic coating is plain useless.

It sounds like a detailer is trying to sell something that we don't need. To put ceramic coating on a truck's undercarriage is a total waste of money and would be like putting makeup on a pig, it will wear off quickly and it is still a pig!

Only 2 years? Damn, I paid a detailer to put that on my car along with a full-front PPF. If my coating wears off in 2 years, I'm gonna be pissed

It's not going to hold up. In that YT video above they say they are using the wheel coating on metal under the car. It will not last there, and I doubt it will hold up to the heat of exhaust components. ScottHD on YouTube has shown many ceramic coatings fail early due to the heat on his black hood in the Texas sun. If some can't handle that, it won't last at all on the exhaust.

I was considering it to protect the front bumper, hood and fenders from some chips and scratches, but I think it's pretty useless for the undercarriage. Unless you're living in a place with salty roads in winter, you shouldn't bother.

Yeah as a detailing enthusiast I call total BS unless it's more of a product formulated for under coating anti rust and has ceramic/Si02 in it and that's why he markets it a "ceramic". But if it's truly a simple ceramic coating that you would put on paint and they decide to use under yeah that's a total waste unless the car is never driven and is a showcar then maybe I could see it's utility.

Ceramic coating will barely protect chips. Like it's no where near a level of PPF in terms of protection and ceramic coating overall are a bit overexaggerated and over-marketed IMO .All a ceramic coating is, imagine regular car wax but that lasts longer, has stronger hydrophobicity, shines as good although some argue a wax gives that special glow that no other product beats, and protects slightly more against swirls but still is marginal and of course some UV protection like wax. You still have to clean your car properly or else you will swirl the car for example. It's really there so that you don't have to always wax your car on a regular basis and make it easier to clean since the hydrophobicity is usually stronger.

Only benefit would be if you have a way to power wash the undercarriage everytime you wash the car if you have alot of salt on the roads in the winter. It wont protect it from physical chips but it will make it easier to 'spray' off any contaminants like salt and road grime. Unless it's a garage queen I don't see the point tbh.
