the dunning-kruger effect in full form with cyrpto. You can poke so many holes in how you are just gambling on on nothing. Like you are buying currency and hoping it goes up. Who does that? A mysterious :gold coin: that isn't jewelry or a metal.

but BITCOIN BRO

Hilarious FUD from ECB. Wouldn't be necessary if bitcoin truly were useless/scam/slow/etc.

How many times has BTC been "dead" now?

The same people who listen to a central bank on decentrilized currency surely must also listen to the pharmaceutical industry on "health."

Please remind me of this thread in two years and that I'm buying here. Let's see, if I can make the "Lambo gains" again. Last cycle, I did.

Edit: please remind me each year 😁

I think you're missing what I'm getting at. If you have to pay taxes on something to keep it, do you really own it?

If you can do with it what you like, and sell it at your own discretion/price, then: Yes, you own it.

I know what you mean and I would say no you don't. You're renting basically.

There's something with that tea that didn't fully sink in and follow through.

For me, yes. I own it. Sure, I have to pay property taxes on it every year (just like my cars), but I understand why the property taxes are there. As "dmatre" noted, I can generally do what I want with my home and I can sell it. So yes, it is an asset, thus my property.

Is your argument that everyone should just carry loans because you're of the opinion that you really don't the home?

I'm not advocating that at all, nor did I even come close to implying it. If you carry a loan and don't pay your property taxes, the government will take your home.

I'm fine with paying property taxes and understand much of it goes to education in my school district. But that has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

My point is if someone can legally take something from you because you didn't pay for "X" regardless of what that "X" is, you don't really own it.

Crypto is the without a doubt the best sham to come around in close to 10 years... not quite NFT level but almost there.

So far it has been proven not to be secure, anonymous and somehow involved in the FTX Ponzi lol...you can make money on it but in the end you're playing with fire.

One of my wife's older (70 y/o) relatives has gotten involved in 1-minute "scalp" crypto trading/bidding. He did his first scalp trade over the weekend using $100K which he turned into $127K. He was so excited and also shocked that he made so much so quickly.

I don't know much about this, but it seems pretty damn sketchy and essentially full-on gambling based on my read of the process. My wife and I are a bit worried that him and his wife will ultimately lose big in the end, basically like a gambling addiction. $100K isn't pocket change to them either. Anyone do scalp trading?

Crypto will absolutely go down as one of history's largest scams.

A currency, without the back of either:
1. A reliable territorial government
2. Representative hard resources that can be exchanged for said currency

is monopoly money, pure and simple. Can it be worth something? Of course. Confederate money, basically worthless 100 years ago, can now be worth thousands for each and every bill. But that's because the CURRENCY ITSELF is worth something. It's a "thing".

Crypto can be just bits and bytes in the cloud. Not a "thing".

Dangerous, and can hurt both people and economies. For individual "people" who get "rich" from it, it can be great. But, for the whole system? Unlikely to be healthy, or helpful long term.

Never even heard of that. But when I first heard about crypto back at the beginning of 2014 it sounded shady. Now if only I had started mining back then and cashed out in 2020/2021 I'd be a millionaire many times over.

Oh well.

Thought maybe I'd learn something or there may have been something I'd missed.

https://www.google.com/search?q=wher...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Seems I'm still up to date and where the value of things come from. Currency's value comes from goods, services, products, supply, demand, inflation, interest rates ... on and on.
While crypto's value comes from supply and demand. There is no workforce. There are no products. If they'd ever get a brain they would stop mining and drive the price up then bail. But the HODL really have no clue.

SBF was a real piece of shit. For the life of me I can't understand why people put their money in a CEX and don't just use it as an on/off ramp. I hope everyone learned.
