Austin Hope is also in my rotation. Check this out. It’s from the Wagner family (Caymus). I always drink Cabernet but someone in the liquor store turned me on to this Merlot when I was looking for something new. If you didn’t tell me it was a Merlot, I’d think it was a Cabernet. It’s in the $45 range. For the splurge, Caymus is my go to.

Joseph Phelps cabernet is pretty good at around $75 - $80. I found Concha y Toro Don Melchor at Costco for $80 a couple of times, so always check when I am in the store (usually leaving disappointed).

I am not a Zinfandel drinker (I think technically listed as a red blend, but it is a Zinfandel) but oddly, I like The Fugitive for $30 at Total Wine. Not sure it is available anywhere else. I bought a few bottles to have for a gathering and enjoyed it, but I may have been drunk from the gin I had first so maybe try just one bottle before buying multiple.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations!

I found a couple of bottles of the 2014 Jamieson Ranch Double Lariat Cab from Napa in the cellar. I believe Parker gave it 91 points. I forgot how good this was especially for the very reasonable cost of $35 I paid. The trouble is I can't find it locally. Is anyone else a fan?

Stopped by local retailer Binnys today.
Picked up some Don Melchor, Mt Brave, and Emmolo. Also had some end of bin Philip Togni magnums I couldn't pass up.
Started with Don Melchor. Wow I forgot how good this is! On our 3rd bottle. Will keep an eye out at Costco for these.
Thanks again for the recommendations.

I think that wine is similar to bourbon and scotch, are you looking for light, fruity all the way up to rich, robust and earthy flavor profiles. Australia produces beautiful Sauvignon Blancs as well as Oregon. Napa, Italy and France are great at Cabernets, Merlots and Sangiovese. There are so many smaller Wineries that produce nice wines, my personal rule is to not spend less than $30 in a store, do so and you’re likely to be disappointed. I try to do the same with bourbon, rum and vodka while scotch is a completely different animal.

Isn't there a connection with this vineyard and Nickle and Nickle? Like thy are family and had a falling out or something? That is a fine bottle of red.

I'm not sure…
It's a great bottle of wine. Now I just need to find some!

The Emmolo Merlot was a huge hit with everyone this weekend. Going into my rotation for sure! Thanks again for the recommendation.

Mrs Hubba and I are in Santa Barbara this week. Yesterday took a drive out to Los Olivos to visit a few wineries. Beautiful places and tasty wine is really hard to beat.

Was turned on to a wonderful red blend from Spain. Clio from D.O. Jumilla. I'm certainly no sommelier but have been blessed to be able to drink some great wines throughout the years. I'd give it a very solid 8/10. For reference my 10/10 is a 1982 Chateaux Margaux that I had last year. I have no other 8/10 or 9/10.
It could it's 16% alc that has influenced me
Oh and it's $40!

From the web..
Clio is a red wine blend of 70% old vines Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from D.O. Jumilla produced by Bodegas El Nido. The winery belongs to the Gil Family Estates group. This group is known for the Juan Gil winery, however it is also the owner of other wineries like Atalaya, Ateca and Shaya among others. Clio is a coupage of grown on estates that are planted in the vicinity of the winery.

Arrived right on time. We opened a bottle of the Chasing Windmills last night, and it was pretty darn incredible. Going to let them sit for a year or 2 before we open any more.

Haven’t heard of this winery. How much is a bottle? Would like to check it out. Ratings seem very good.

https://torwines.com/

I had not heard about it until about 3 years ago, maybe? We attended a wine dinner where it was featured. The ratings you see are spot on. Any of their reds are fantastic, I am partial to the Petite Syrah. The Chasing Windmills was an add on, suggested by Sierra at the winery when I ordered the Syrah. I'm very glad she did, it's a great red blend! As for white, I normally don't like Chards, but even their Chard made me go "wow". I think it was Carneros. Had to look back at my Visa charges, for the 6 bottles pictured shipped with tax and all was $644. Worth every penny for a special occassion wine IMO. We are visiting Napa in a few weeks, and have Tor on the list to attend. I am very excited!

Just got my case of RAEN pinot. 2021 vintage so it will sit for a while. Got six of the Sonoma Coast and six of the Fort Ross-Seaview. Already in my wine storage so images are from the vineyard's webpage...

Old vines Petite Sirah - stop, you're killing me here!

Despite being an old guy, I still greatly favor the balance of tannins in a well-made Petite Sirah. As I eat little red meat anymore, I now just drink a glass or two of P.S. by itself while watching the sun set.

For a very long time, Ridge's Lytton Springs is what I've favored. I started buying it before Lytton Springs Winery sold out to Ridge. To Ridge's credit, they've left near perfection alone.
