Thumbs down 2024 Corvette E-Ray...

https://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-v...corvette-e-ray

Once again, GM has a huge miss with the starting price. The Vette is no longer the affordable sports car.

GM can shove em all at these prices IMO. Pass!

Also a huge miss not calling it something like the Grand Sport E...

They don't care about people that can't afford it. There are plenty of people who can afford it. Thats their market. I would never buy an American car again. I still have a newer Tahoe and I regret ever spending the money on it.

Not only is it expensive to purchase, it is very expensive to maintain.
I am an old timer....have had a couple of vettes and one of the reasons vettes became hugely popular was that it became a grassroots car. One that most people with a few tools and mechanical aptitude could do all the services and modifications themselves or with the help of a small shop. You didn't have to be rich to own one and enjoy it. The C8 changed all of that. Now a hybrid vette? Yep fast when new but what about after 7-8 years old? It is sad but I do believe corvette is going in the wrong direction. It is not all about power. Heck, reduce the weight of a c6 Zo6 by 700lbs and man what a car it would be. Naturally aspirated over 500 rwhp easy to obtain and easy to work on! Plus 26 mpg on the highway. Yes and weight reduction can be done.

I may end up with a Corvette before I die, but if I do it'll be a C6.

I understand your point, but I think moving upmarket was the only way to save the car long term. If you look at the way things are moving, there is a ton of wealth at the top and a growing chasm between the top and everyone else. Average people can't or won't buy a dedicated sports car anymore. These mid-priced sports cars are becoming a harder and harder sell. Moving the brand up lets them make the car better and get a better halo effect, and sell at higher margins to people that have a ton of cash.

$100k for a 650 hp mid engine sports car doesn’t sound out of line, standard CCBs too

Standard CCB seems so weird for a car like this when it’s not standard on z06. Why not just reduce the price to $95k and make them optional? The $40k price delta over a regular C8 seems kind of nuts for an extra electric motor, CCB, and mag ride.

Find another car that can go 0-60 in 2.5 seconds at that price...I'll wait

It's a bargain compared to others that can get even close to that performance

Challenger Demon
Tesla Model S P100D (and several others)
M4 comp xDrive
Corvette Stingray Z51
GTR

All cost less than this and have sub-3s 0-60 times.

yes, the Demon is faster and technically lower MSRP(if you can find one anywhere near MSRP) currently $200K for used ones, and not sure it could hang on the track

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...e=supplemental

Tesla Plaid is 1.99 0-60 but hard to compare Model S to C8, electric is a whole different animal...also starts at @ $120K with new price drop

M4 Comp I believe is a great car, but its 2.9 0-60

Z51 is also great car, but also not quite as fast at 2.9 seconds

GTR starts at $113K and not as fast either at 2.9

either way, like I said, @ $102K msrp, not a lot out there faster than that at that price point

Only way to save it?

Yet it's still poorly made. The sacrifice is build quality for the performance to keep up with more expensive cars.

The C7 sold just fine. base C8 @ $60k seems to sell fine. Sadly, adding any real options & the price gets out of control fast.

C6Z is still a monster even today. C6ZR1 too.
I enjoyed the hell out of my C6Z. If they were not hardtop only, I'd consider another right now. Wouldn't mind the 2013 427 Vert, but not for the dumb asking prices out there

Yep, they no longer care about the car's CORE CUSTOMER BASE for generations.

we are talking about performance....don't know if you know this, but 0-60 times are posted and advertised for a reason....

Trust me, if I had $102K laying around, the E-Ray would be on the short list

I hate the direction Corvette is going. I'm old school and always loved them but I feel like the core base is being left behind or just ignored. It used to be a raw performance car that was attainable to most. Now, its become a heavy, plush, expensive car that the tech nerds/social media "influencers"(lol) buy. I understand the need to appeal to a younger demographic to help it live on, but its gone a bit too far too fast. I can no longer walk into my dealership and order any corvette and expect to pick it up in a couple of months.

not really....Chevy completely redesigned a front engine Vette and made a mid engine version and the base price between the last C7 in 2019 and the 2020 C8 was a whopping $3000 difference

with supply chains getting back to normal these days, you can still walk into a Chevy dealer and order a base C8 and probably have it in a few months.

The E-Ray and Z06 obviously going to cost more, but still considered a bargain by most when compared to other cars with that type of looks and performance

Sorry that you English comprehension isn't very good....

You come on here crying about the C8 E-Ray being too expensive for you

Others point out that it is pretty much a bargain at its price point.

I asked you to find another car doing 0-60 in 2.5 seconds for that price and you come back with this?

Ok...
