Me and the misses will be in San Diego Feb 20-25 just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things to do ? Up for anything fun, touristy, off the beaten path etc. Just looking to have an all out great, memorable trip!

Go to the USS Midway display if you want to see an old aircraft carrier and some cool planes.

About to head back myself....

Gaslight....the whole district for fun times.

Aero Bar for that ghetto bar feel with a drink menu the size of a phonebook.

USS Midway

Old Town by the tracks for good eats

Golf Golf Golf....Torrey Pines?

La Jolla...see the seals along the way.

Convention center...usually something going on.

Sporting events....

Marina....everywhere....

Sea World...but...meh....

The whole downtown area has been redeveloping in the past 5 years. And the beauty is everything is within 20 minutes -- 15 from the airport outside of traffic hours.

La puerta has some good ass tacos, the celebrity mug shots on the walls and them flipping you the bird in the bathroom is a site for sore eyes haha. Tons of other good restuarants and breweries too if thats you thing. Ballast point is good as hell and always have interesting flavored IPAs and solid food. Gas lamp district in general has a lot of fun bars/nightlife.

As I am writing this I'm realizing all I do is eat an drink when I go out there haha.

This is on point - I got stuffed and drunk at La puerta at 11am last time I went. And yes, eat/drink is an EASY thing to do there.

There's a fantastic restaurant that has the local Stone(something) wine near Pointe Loma...can't remember the name. Fantastic selection of wine if you're looking local.

In addition to previous comments, a day trip to Disneyland (90 mi.), Balboa Park (some museums free on Tuesdays) and/or zoo, Coronado island (via bridge), Temecula wineries (60 mi.), sailing, surfing, beaches, easy and scenic hiking in Torrey Pines preserve. The view of SD from the top of Mt. Soledad (La Jolla) is spectacular on a clear day. Snorkeling at the La Jolla caves (via the Cove). Windansea beach (locals), Coronado beach, or La Jolla Shores/Blacks beach. A scenic mountainous drive to Julian and/or Mt. Palomar (60 mi). Old Town. A very picturesque (day/night) around Seaport Village if you're near downtown or the Midway (mentioned in prior post); ferry available to Coronado here, if you don't drive the bridge (ferry takes just minutes). It'll be whale watching season; it's fun to take a quick boat outing (from the Embarcadero) to see them close up. Would forego any day trip to Mexico (typically a hellish border wait to return). If you golf Torrey Pines, the North course is better (and locals get reduced green fees). Oh, and I'd pass on Sea World – an overrated money pit. But, if you have young kids and don't want to go to Disneyland, Legoland can be fun for them, I've heard.

Try to get up to Julian, have some apple pie at Mom's. Hit Dudley's bakery (Santa Ysabel) on the way.

Seaport Village is always fun (there's a seafood place - behind the Greek food place, in the court) which has some some GREAT fish-n-chips.

Walk around the Gaslamp and do some bar hopping (even if it's non-alcoholic), wath the drunks and homeless try to the scooter rentals. Always good for a laugh.

Torrey Pines - watch the hang gliders (bring a lunch to sit and relax).

Mission Beach boardwalk at sunset, ride the roller coaster at Belmont Park.

Do a walk through in Old Town, most of the Mexican food restaurants tend to overfill your plate for the price you'll pay. Drive up to the Presidio and scope out some of the old (and beautiful) homes along the way.

Balboa Park is always enjoyable (a nice place to eat and get a couple drinks is in the aerospace museum)

Stay out of Sea World - unless you really do not like your money.

My bud in s.d replied with this

"Hike at Torrey Pines, go to Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla, go to Hotel Del in Coronado (touristy but cool), go to Cabrillo National Monument (touristy but cool), go to Cardiff beaches and swamis and watch surfers and stop in seaside market for Cardiff crack"

Agree with pretty much everything above, but will throw in my 2 cents.

Avoid Phils BBQ. It's good for locals but pretty much sucks when compared to BBQ in every other state.

Golf at Torrey is popular and your timing is good because it's about a month after the Farmers Insurance tourney. North has a better view but the South course will be more challenging. However, there are far better courses in the area. La Costa and Aviara are good options in Carlsbad. Worth noting that most of the major golf manufacturers are in Carlsbad so the tracks out here are pretty good. The Grand is also great.

Cardiff is great, between the Cardiff Crack, Pacific Coast Grill is fantastic and is on the beach.

Can't believe no one mentioned this, but the breweries out here are great. Stone brewery is a must visit if you like IPAs. It's in Escondido which about 25 miles north.

San Diego is my favorite city to stay since years and as mentioned before all the places are worth a visit.
Don't miss Point Loma, La Jolla is quite busy very early and you have to come on time to get a parking space not too far from the beach, the sea lion spot is almost overcrowded but worth a visit. For the Midway count in few hours for visit, we spend last year round about 8 hours. Gaslamp Quarters, Balboa Park, Sea World and Coronado Island. If applicable near MCAS Miramar is a small Plane Museum with a very grumpy but cool guy, whos be able to tell hilarious stories. If you have a taste for movies, dont miss the famous "piano scene" bar from Top Gun into the Market Street, they have one of the biggest bra collections ever seen at the ceiling and very nice food.

Go have a drink at the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island. One of the most beautiful hotels in the US. I've had a chance to stay there on a few occasions for work events and the place is amazing. La Jolla is a must see as well.

My favorites are the Midway tour and the San Diego Zoo (Balboa Park).

Or, you could go to Tiajuana and pick up some cheap STDs

For the very simple pleasure, my favorite spot in SD is to go to H&M landing, get a loaf of sourdough bread and about 1.5 lbs of smoked tuna, then sit on the rocks and watch the charters come in and unload their catch.

For reference, it's probably been 15 years since I last had the opportunity to do this ;(
