I have always preferred wagons over SUVs.

I drive a wagon and wife drives a X3. Here's the truth for a family of 4;

- Wagon handles better (duh)

- Wagon has more square footage of boot (trunk) space (handier than cubic )

- Wagon looks million times better

- Wagon less likely to roll which is legit concern with SUV and kids (boosters strictly not allowed, chest harness only even the 7 yr old)

- Extra ride height on SUV helps with scrapes, snow, wimen driving/parking errors and those evil parking lot concrete blocks

- SUV is better for sightlines

- SUV WAY, WAY, WAY easier to get young kids in and out of

- SUV has more cubic cargo space

- SUV easier to get in and out of as I pass age 40

- More legroom in SUV due to seating position (this is not a myth)

For family duty, imho, the SUV comes out on top. But i'd i'd love an uber wagon one day.

a few years ago i almost bought a F3X 3-series wagon. then i drove it.....it drove like utter garbage. really just a big fat sloppy mess...couldn't believe they had the audacity to say it had an "M Sport" package

the only wagon that interests me is the E63 AMG. it's a gangster wagon full of attitude.

This thread has kinda turned into a discussion of who digs wagons vs crossovers, but just to go back to the assertion of the article: the Bloomberg article leaves out a critical fact - that wagons are losing share despite selling more units.

Road and Track reported on that here:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...share-falling/

This data is not good news. The total number of wagons sold is up overall, but it's only because overall sales are way up. But sales of other segments are growing far faster than wagons so wagons are losing share.

The implication for automakers? I can sell far more crossovers or whatever for my investment dollar, so I'm not going to focus my time or money on wagons.

What a shame too, that wagon in the OP is drop dead gorgeous. But I guess I'm part of the problem - I love looking at a nice wagon, but I've never actually bought a wagon

Personally I don’t mind the regular 5-series wagon, but all the M Performance stuff on it looks gaudy and awful
