Lol . You should have asked him if this is a 4-valve per cylinder engine.
While test driving an E36 318 (way back in 1992), my friend turned around with a serious face and asked the sales rep “is this a 4-valve per cylinder engine?”. A pause and an answer “I will check for you once we get back to the dealer”.

The irony of it that Porsche is the most profitable car manufacturer and BMW isn’t. BMW sells more cars and Porsche sells less. Yet, Porsche knows how to treat a “valued” customer.
A sane person would think BMW ought to catch on to that idea and train their dealerships to be more customer-friendly and oriented.
Lol forgot to mention that when I originally asked to test drive the F80 his response was" we only let people who are serious about buying test drive those". I responded with "my M3 is in for a recall right now". He instantly said "I'll go grab the keys".

I contacted about 20 dealerships looking for a GT3 allocation and reached out to all the SoCal dealers since I'm in CA. Not a single one was rude; actually they were all super polite...They just wanted $20k-$30k over sticker but were nice as hell about it.

This thread deteriorated rapidly...

BUT.... OP speaks truth. I have experienced this myself in visiting local BMW dealers vs MBZ and Porsche and Lexus dealers.

may be they learnt from the GT4 experience. No more relationship, lists or other nonsense, will sell as long as ADM is paid.

You can't make it ten feet into the Merc or Porsche dealer without someone offering to help you, or get you something to eat or drink. At our local BMW dealer you will just stand there until you are able to stop or interrupt a staff member.
My recent (first) experience with BMW of San Antonio (on I-10) near 1604) went fine. I am the second owner on a M235iConvertible still under factory warranty, took it in for warranty on the display, and to have the brake fluid flushed. Also had them apply a new nav map update.
Greeted promptly, asked what I needed, and gave me a ride to the airport. I later asked for a discount on my work because I didn't take a loaner car and got a $100 off.
I have not dealt with the sales staff. But while I was walking around the showroom looking at $100k + stickers, no one bothered me. Of course, the way I dress, they probably thought I was a homeless vet looking for a warm bathroom to sleep in.

My local BMW dealer is fine, and so is the MB dealer.

In my experience the Japanese car dealers are the most arrogant POS idiots I've ever met. They all have this no haggle "our cars sell themselves" attitude. My family has had more issues with idiot dealerships at Honda and Toyota than we have ever had from BMW or MB. Even VW has been good to deal with.

My last Toyota, before BMWs, the car salesman told me that they didn't discount. I told him that was BS and he had five minutes and one chance to make me an offer. I would then either take it or walk out.

He made me a decent offer and I took it.

Personally, I will not tolerate the "I have to go see the manager" BS. It is possible to have a decent car buying experience but you have to be aggressive in what you expect and will tolerate from your sales person.

I agree that Toyota and Honda can be real hard to deal with as they have a captive buying set that refuse to shop elsewhere.

I know a guy who shopped for the outgoing CRV a year or so ago, you'd think the dealers would be all over him with the new stock at the door but they all told him to go suck a bag of dicks if he didn't pay close to full sticker.

Wow People think so badly of car sales guys. It all depends on the person. I know were i work 60k is pretty much the bottom of the pay scale with 100- 130k being possible for an above average sales guy. Theres multiple Car Salesmen not managers etc.. making 200k+ a year just in the small town i live in.
