F1 2023: Brazilian GP - São Paulo (Nov 5)

F1 2023: Brazilian GP - Interlagos (Nov 5)

Schedule:
https://www.formula1.com/en/racing/2023/Brazil.html

Autódromo José Carlos Pace Interlagos (São Paulo)

Quote:
When was the track built?

Building work began on what ended up being called the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace – but what is more commonly referred to as Interlagos – all the way back in 1938. The track designers took their inspiration from three main circuits: Brooklands in the UK, Roosevelt Raceway in the USA and Montlhery in France.
When was its first Grand Prix?

Buoyed by the success of Brazil’s Emerson Fittipaldi, Formula 1 first jetted into Interlagos for a world championship race in 1973. Fans were treated to a home win in the first three Brazilian Grands Prix, with Fittipaldi victorious in 1973 and 1974, while Carlos Pace won in 1975.
What’s the circuit like?

Like many pre-World War II tracks, Interlagos features banked corners, with the drivers beginning their lap on a sort of half oval – in fact, between 1957 and the track’s return to the F1 calendar in 1990, Interlagos could be run as a giant oval. After wiggling through the Senna S and down to Turn 4, the drivers then go through a snaking in-field section with some challenging camber changes, before slinging back up the hill and through the banked final turn.
Why go?

A carnival atmosphere really does dominate in Brazil, and watching Formula 1 cars alongside the locals is something every F1 fan should experience. True, it doesn’t look like there’ll be a local driver to cheer on any time soon, but that won’t stop the party at Interlagos.
Where is the best place to watch?

Because of the bowl-like nature of the track, a place in Grandstand A on the banked entry to the start-finish straight will give you a double whammy of views, allowing you to see the cars winding through the infield section and then passing underneath you. On the other end of the straight, Grandstand M will put you on top of the first corner and the Senna S, the best spot to watch overtakes on the track.

So what are your predictions?

Last year was of course the only race Mercedes got to win (Russel)

This is quite a short and curvy track, and I also believe quite narrow compared to lots of other current tracks.
Not the high speed aero track that RB automatically dominates.
Max just had a really bad race here last year.

This year I think Max will do quite good but I think Checo doesnt stand a chance. I really wonder what RIC can do with the AT and it's current updates. That car also lacks top speed but maybe here that's not such a problem. Last year RIC had a really bad race, touching KMAG in the rear, and in that following spin, KMAG took out RIC. A kharmacrash so to speak...

My prediction:
1. NOR (just because he deserves it)
2. VER
3. HAM
4. PIA
5. LEC
6. RIC

1 Max
2 Nor
3 Ham
4 Lec
5 Per

Max will probably pull it off. He learned from last year. Norris is going to continue killing it. Ham is feeling confident but they still don't quite have it yet. Leclerc will probably start P2 and just not be able to hold it together all race. I think there are long enough straights for Perez to do well, as long as he doesn't run into someone again...

From what I saw in the 2022 race rerun is that this is a Hammy supporters track now with the crowd cheering as hammy got past Checo, so the pressure will increase for Checo to defend his second in the drivers championship and the Merc are good here so Checo's only hope is to keep as close as he can to him to minimise points loss and not to DNF.

Hard to say anyone but VER will P1. Do not think RIC will fair the same as in Mexico but look for him to out do TSU again but in a more realistic place for AT. Looking forward to seeing NOR & HAM duke it out for P2 & P3. Also curious to see if FER can find another full second between Q2 and Q3 this time.

yeah my P6 is a bit wishful thinking , but if RIC could finish in the top 10 and grab 1 or more points, that would be awesome. The AT is still one of the bottomfeeder cars.

Mike Elliot (chief technical officer Mercedes F1) resigns. I guess they hold him responsible for the zeropod debacle:

Another interesting thing is said in this video, and that is that next years car is gonna be very very important, as that will pretty much determine not only next year's performance but also 2025 performance, as all of the 2025 budget will go into the 2026 car as that is a new regulation car.
This is of course also why RB has been telling pretty much half of the season that they don't do big development anymore and are mainly working on the 2024 car.

So teams that have been frantically working on improving this years car may end up having a bad 2024 and 2025 season, or, if they choose to improve the 2025 car, having a bad 2026 season and beyond....
The budgetcap demands meticulous planning ahead.

Slim's money just don't cut it if the downward slide continues for Checo and the RB20 simply cannot be handed to him. There must be a clause in contract where if there is so much damage costs and revealing secrets of the cars aero means basically that you are sacked. ie, like Mick S was after his carnage at Haas.

Charlie has said an old problem still persists with the F23, that Ferrari are struggling with that allowed LEW to pass him at Mexico, in that the tyres cannot heat up quickly enough and actually hold the required temperature demonstrated more when the red flag happened and put the coup de grace on any effort to move up when he was put on hards for the last stint, another unbelievable bad strat.
It's strange though that this problem actually made SAI get a lucky win at the SGP with a 'lucky dip' set up chosen out of many.

Expecting another win for Max but it will also be another very important race for his teammate Sergio Perez who has to perform good in order to boost his chances of keeping the Red Bull seat in the next season.

Lawson has said that RBR wants him to be on standby for 2024 for both its teams and to be ready at 'anytime'.
This means he won't be returning to the Super Formula action he took part in previously.
