NYC Suggestions

Will be travelling to NYC and staying in the Bronx for about 4 days next week. While I've been to NYC, it's been a LONG time and I don't remember much.

Travelling with the family so that includes a 4 year old and a 4 month old, so that'll definitely slow us down a lot.

Here's what I've got so far:
Bronx Zoo
Central Park
Statue of Liberty
Hudson Yard
Orchard Beach

Places to eat:
John's on Bleecker St
Ess-a-bagel
Katz's
Di Fara (I'm not sure how practical this will be as it's over an hour away)

Any other suggestions for things to do/places to eat?

We enjoyed eating at Ellen’s Stardust Diner (for the entertainment), and a horse and carriage ride around Central Park.

The view from the top of the Empire State Bldg is breathtaking. Not sure if the kids will appreciate it.

I haven't been to Manhattan in years, and don't have kids so I really can't comment on kid friendly things to do or places to eat.

I do want to incorporate a nice view into the trip. Have you done Hudson Yard? That also seems like a pretty good view point. Not sure how it compares to Empire State.

I have never been to top of the Empire State Building but I have been to The Edge at Hudson Yards and the view is spectacular. Pretty wild to be outside that high up, and be able to look straight down the glass floor. With the proximity to the river I can't imagine how the Empire State view could beat it.

Freedom Tower or WTC then free-ferry to/from Staten Island.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge then eat cheesecake at Junior's then Brooklyn Botanical Garden ( I think there is a petting zoo inside).
Hudson Yard is a big waste of time imo, its a mall and a bunch of staircases.
As far as specific places to eat in NYC, its endless.

Ballfields Cafe in Central Park is a great place for a quick lunch. Right near the carousel, too. And Rosa Mexicano (several of them in NYC) has awesome guac that they make right at your table. One of them is right across from Lincoln Center in a building I lived in decades ago.

No, I haven't done Hudson Yard. I just goggled it, the Edge looks pretty cool.
Both are about 100 stories high but the Edge in Hudson yards shows glass floors and is a suspended deck.

Hey would be glad to help as i've been here my whole life!

It depends on what you're trying to do, touristy things to do I'm sure visiting Times Square might be on your bucket list as well. Orchard Beach is cool but nothing too crazy I would suggest for a first timer here. The high line in manhattan is also nice.

If you feel like venturing into Brooklyn even though it's far away , South Brooklyn would have some nice stuff for you and the kids; Coney Island, the Aquarium, original Nathan's, boardwalk and rides at Coney Island.

DiFara personally is not our best pizza anymore in Brooklyn, I'd highly suggest Lucali which is more of a sit down place, L & B Spumoni gardens for the signature square slices where the sauce is on top of the cheese(they've also went down in quality recently too), or even a new place by me as well called "Lucia of Avenue X". But you could definitely make a day out of coming into South Brooklyn with plenty of things to do/places to eat!

Would be glad to help you out with anything else too

DiFara is my favorite pizza but it's not worth the trip from the Bronx - plenty of good pizza in Manhattan. (Joe's on Carmine, Prince Street, etc) If you do come to Brooklyn, stop by L&Bs and get an upside down square too.

Hudson Yards is kind of overrated - and I built one of the buildings + one of the guys who designed the means and methods for constructing the vessel. Highline Park is pretty cool in the area

Visit the Freedom Tower/Oculus

Brookfield Place Mall + Battery Park walk should be nice for your family

Honestly, I'd avoid Times Square. The bright lights are about the only thing worth seeing there.

Remember this city is a dirty chithole infested with nutjobs and the new Mayor is doing a bang up job making it worse.

I'm curious to try it. I've actually tried the recipe for prince street pizza at home so I have an idea of what it's supposed to taste like... would be awesome to try the real thing

Awesome suggestions! I'll definitely have to pitch a day in south Brooklyn and see what they say. Do you have any recommendations for Manhattan area?

Although I agree with Purpl3ish's recommendations, it's not South Brooklyn. L&B is Bensonhurst, maybe Gravesend. Coney Island is a few minutes away from there.

South Brooklyn is closer to Manhattan, down by Carol Gardens and Red Hook.

It's certainly a wild view but once you're done, there's not much else to do after. You'd be better off grabbing a bite at Westlight in Brooklyn and soaking in the views there. The best views of Manhattan are from Brooklyn.

John's has awesome pizza. Whenever I have friends/family visit, aside from treating them to one of the classic NYC pizza spots, everyone is always blown away by Artichoke pizza too. It's ridiculously good - especially when you've had some drinks.

L&B is dope but I'd rather get a sandwich from Lionis if I'm in Bensonhurst. I lived in Bensonhurst for a few years and wtwo3 should definitely not go there.

Brooklyn definitely has great spots to eat, but some areas you have to be in and out. No such thing as going for a walk lol
