Odd jobs you'd like to try in retirment

I just turned 36 last month, and with each passing year my desire to retire increases in intensity. I'm still a good 15-20 years away from that goal, but I like to fantasize about all the things I'd do once I'm retired.

Here's a few things in no particular order that I'd like to try out just for the hell of it once I'm retired. The beauty of it is I can just quit if I don't like something.

1) Car Salesman - I'd love to try this out to get an in with the industry, but without the pressure to sell to support my livelihood (or to not get fired).

2) Turo business - I like the idea of purchasing cars as an investment
to rent out on Turo. And if there's downtime where people aren't renting? I get to enjoy my pick of daily driver

3) Participating in various focus groups - Not really a "job", but seems like an interesting thing to do and be compensated for.

4) Photography - I love the idea of photographing cars and/or landscapes.

5) Start a travel blog - Because I love travel, and I'm hoping to do a lot more of it in retirement

I’d love to retire early and fund it with a travel blog. Now thats living!

Not sure I want to work at all when I’m done. I certainly work to live, although I enjoy working, I want that season to have a hard stop.

Yeah these odd jobs are more out of curiosity than a need to fund my retirement. The goal is that I'll have a fully funded retirement where I don't need to work, and any of these jobs I do are just out of plain curiosity. The money I make from these jobs is just extra gravy.

I always wanted to be a resort and fine dining photog, or maybe only fine dining at lavish resorts. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any money in it and I don’t know that I’ll ever retire

I’d say then I think a high end auto purchase agent would be quite fun. I realize it’s very specialized and Niche, but hunting for luxury and exotic vehicles with someone else’s money would be very entertaining and feed the beast.

FIL just went to work at the local wild life safari zoo as a volunteer for now. He loves it. Aside from cleaning out the rhino poop, feeding and cleaning giraffes etc have been some of his highlights. I could enjoy that.

I've been retired since this past May. I'm busier now than when I was working. Seems I never have enough time in the day. I've been taking care of long overdue projects around the house. In the better weather I was cycling outdoors every day, but now I ride inside on the trainer. Plus I'm out walking a couple of times a day. I've been doing most of the cooking and I'm getting pretty good at improvising now that I understand more about the spices and quantities of ingredients. I've been working with a geospatial professor who was a colleague of mine on mapping the local biking/hiking trails around the lake. He flies the drone and gets the pics and I stitch them together.

I'd like to get back into my photography hobby, but I need to find the time. Something I never thought I'd be short of in retirement.

I wouldn't go "back to work" for any salary. Retirement is too sweet.

The difference is you're busy on your own terms and not because you have to be for a job. That's the dream man, glad you're enjoying it!

I'd want to teach a class in an university. One of my professors' advice etc helped me more than the actual class content; I taught two years of freshmen engineering orientation classes and a few of those kids still reach out to me asking for professional advice.

@OP if you want to do focus group stuff you can do that, it pays somewhat well (I did one a few weeks back) and got $200 for 2hr with validated parking. What sucks is they're really selective so you can't really go back and live off of them, I haven't been called back for anything since. (Or I just do not fit anything lol)

Animal crap isn't nearly as bad as human. Unless you're talking dog, then it is.

I've been retired for 10 years and have relished not having to go to work. I mean, really relished doing whatever I want and when I want.

But to stay active, I've become the webmaster in a club, as well as the secretary. No pay of course, just for fun.

A friend in the club, and another friend/author/former classmate asked me to consider being a docent at our local veterans museum. I'm still thinking about that one.

It's nice to have choices that I can take or leave.

My biggest issue right now is time. My wife works a lot of weekends so I'm home with the 4 year old, and during the week my job is pretty demanding. With another kid on the way no sign of this letting up soon... not that I'm complaining (maybe a little).

I figured door greeter at Walmart would make an appearance. Almost seems like a rite of passage. Don't think I'd last longer than a day on that job.
