Hey thanks, I actually took quite a bit of saturation out, but that's pretty much all I did to it. Now that I look at it again, maybe I should up the contrast a bit to make the whites whiter......

I have nothing new to offer so here's an HDR photo I did last winter.

Is this mundane enough?

Nice shot Twitch but I just am not sure it really focuses on anything specific that "captures some element of an ordinary object in your photograph that is either unusual or usually escapes notice."

too be honest, I see a lot of pics submitted that don't do that either.

Kinda feels like everyone feel a bit off topic.

everyone in reference to the group of people I was saying didn't focus on the actual concept of the topic. I'm not really even sure if mine does but I thought it was pretty specific and mundane enough to submit. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes here... just saying I think the OP had something very specific in mind for the theme and not really sure too many people hit it on the nose is all. obviously the theme is up for interpretation.

FWIW, the photos submitted are all excellent in some respect, I've noticed a big jump up in photo quality from our first few contests for sure.

thats not for me to decide, the poll will do that for us (hopefully)... I was just saying I felt like a lot of the entries have fallen short of what I think the theme was intended to be this time.

Bingo. Most of the photos submitted don't really capture the essence of the theme, but since there are so many that don't quite get it, what is there to do about it? We'll just let things go the way they are. The quality of submissions IS excellent this time, though.

I think you should post an example. It doesn't have to be a great picture so just post something that we can base ours on. Although I have an idea for mine, I was thinking about it as I was driving around the other day and couldn't come up with anything. There's nothing on the freeway/roads that I would put in a picture unless you're looking at things on a smaller scale like trash cans, signs, etc. After all, most of the things we consider mundane are not suitable for pictures (at least IMO).

That's the point. I want you to capture what you feel IS different about that which isn't photographable.

here's a quick example that I pulled from my archive.

While I'm not a professional photographer (very, very noobish, actually) and this isn't my contest, I am an artist. I can't tell you what your vision of the contest is supposed to be, because it's yours. But, I don't really think that example shows seeing the beauty in the mundane.

That's simply just taking a photo of a sign and fence, and knowing how to use the camera. It's not really adding any artistic element to it at all. (This argument could be debated for all eternity - what is art, and what makes it art.)

I would think a winning photo would take the mundane and make it beautiful, not just "see" the beauty in it. You need to translate your vision to everyone else. So that even someone who knows nothing about art would think it's "beautiful." For example, here's a bottle of Kettle One I grabbed off the internet, it's a nice, clean, crisp professional shot, and there is an artistic element to it. Then next to it is a shot I took of the same (not exact) bottle, and it makes it look like something different.

Hmm. I'm really missing the point now. Don't see the beauty there. I think Bryan's bee on the flower or E92NV's night scene fit the bill pretty well. Both pics of mundane stuff but both have an air of beauty to them.

I think that's juts an example to show that you can take pictures of almost anything that's supposedly ordinary. I mean I've seen pictures of abandoned places with fences that look spectacular. The example he provided is, IMO, of street photography.

So with that said I think anything that we come in contact with could be a good subject: a pillow on our bed, morning frost on the windows, a cup of coffee and donuts int he morning, etc. But by that nature a lot of things fit the category so I think most (if not all) the images submitted are fine. My $.02.

I totally agree. Not only the "sign/fence" photo doesn't fit this contest (at least in my opinion), the photo is actually mediocre at best.
