I consider round count the same as I consider carrying a gun in the first place...

Have you considered the FN 509, Walther PPQ or Beretta PX4?

FN 509, The slide was too difficult for her to move
Walther PPQ - Didn't like the Grip (along with HK VP9)
I'll have to look at the beretta

her biggest issue is the force its taking to move the slide, we held and handled like 15 handguns and once she handled the SP2022 it was like butter for her, maybe because of the polymer frame, but I dont know enough about them.

I own a PPQ, really? I thought the PPQ looked very tactical in stock form and the grip was perfect.

I really like the grip of both, however for her being her first firearm i wanted her to be most comfortable with the one she chose, under the $600 mark

Switched over to a S&W MP 9 Shield, love it! Way easier to carry concealed compared to my old Glock 27.

Shoots great as well!

I've heard good things about the Shield. Wish it was just a half inch longer barrel

you can use the 7+1 mag and carry the 6. It's pretty small, single stack. There's 15 right there.

You can get so many pistols under $600.

I recommend dont roll into a gun store and buy their guns. Many times they are marked up sometimes $200-400. I have seen base Glocks pushing $700-800.

Check out Gallery of Guns and pick out a gun and just have it shipped to the closest shop to your house. Fill out legal forms.

most handguns under 600 will have polymer frames.

I'd highly recommend a Glock 19. My mother is one of the weakest people I've ever trained with firearms and she still easily manipulated the slide. also look into techniques to manipulate the slide.

Worst case, may be better off with a wheel gun (revolver).

Why do you stick at any cost to 9mm guns? An e.g. Walther PPK with 7,65mm would also stop any attacker and coils much more less than a Glock or a Sig, is better to stow, lighter weight and so on.
So?

of course, everyone has to make their money, we ended up going last night to a local shop (support those local business) and ordered the 2022. I've taken her to the range a whole bunch now and she always ended up going to the sig. As the first gun, not the last, I just had to keep reminding her that whatever gun she just felt right with would be her purchase. The $600 budget was simply since the ones she did like ended up falling under that number. Yes I think between polymer frame and ease of slide mechanism, she just chose what she felt most comfortable with.

On the other hand..

I'm REALLY loving the sig 1911 - F - NMR
beautiful firearm, and kinda scratches the itch for the 1911 for me

I have a S&W .357 that I had her shoot with me .38 and she was not a fan of the revolver.

Bullets are the same as a condom.

Better to have them and not need them, then need them and not have them.
