Carroll Shelby made a deal with Hertz resulting in the purchase of a thousand Shelby GT350 Mustangs in 1966. For $17 per day and 17 cents per mile you could rent a GT350H. Better budget for gas money, though.

Before the sensational Datsun 240Z, Datsun fired a shot across the bow of the European sports car manufacturers with the Fairlady convertibles. Initially available as a RHD Fairlady 1500, it soon became the LHD Fairlady 1600 and was quite competitive in the market. Here's a 1600.

(When the 240Z was introduced, it was known as the Fairlady Z in some markets.)

The Holy Grail of Ferraris: The Ferrari 250GTO. 3-liter V-12 with 295 horsepower. Current value somewhere north of 50 million dollars.

Premiered in February 1962; 39 cars built 1962-1964.

I subscribed to Road & Track magazine for many years beginning in the early 1960s and remember seeing an advertisement in the back of the magazine for a used 250GTO for, if memory serves, $8,500. It might've needed work. Oh, for a time machine!

Meh. It's pretty, but the only reason it costs that much is because it's the poster child for "alternative investments" for the 0.0001%. Makes no sense whatsoever to me, but then I don't breathe that air.

I believe Nick Mason, the drummer for Pink Floyd owns one of these.

Here is a black and red VW Bug, very similar to the first car I owned. I was 18 and proud of that car.

Here's an interesting 1925 Avions Voisin C5 with Faux Cabriolet body by Besset. Avions Voisin was an aircraft company that made the transition to automobiles after World War I. The cars had powerful 100 hp engines -- good for 80 miles per hour -- and hydraulic brakes.

Of similar vintage to the French Avions Voisin in the last post, this 1925 Morris Oxford 13.9 hp Tourer gives off a rather older vibe, which is understandable considering that it had begun production in 1913.

While the car is charming in an antique way, it also makes ones appreciate our modern cars that insulate the passengers from the weather!
