Good, I still have my E46 M3. Any potential way to raise the value is greatly appreciated.

Why are a lot of people hating on these guys?
They can put any price they want on these cars. That's all it is: An invitation to make an offer. Lastly, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And as a previous poster said before, there will always be someone who wants these cars in this condition and will pay for it. |

Someone will definitely buy these two since so many enthusiasts have such a love affair with this generation ///M cars... or some random BMW museum will buy them and put them up to live out the rest of their car lives on display for all to see.

Same thing happened to me, I found a Z4M, by the time I contacted the seller EAG had already purchased it. I saw it there a few weeks later, they had fixed a big scratch in the bumper, put the standard exhaust on it and refinished the wheels. I never thought about being upset. There are a bunch of us trying to find the best cars for the best price and the fastest one with the cash gets it.

Wow, these are two dreamy cars, if I have the extra money, I will buy my ticket to Ohio today!

Haha after reading the title I already knew which dealer it was...they have a lot of cool stuff, but you have to be a serious "enthusiast" to be able to afford it.

Enthusiast Auto has built an amazing niche off finding every clean niche BMW car, scooping it up at low or reasonable prices, making sure it's completely ready to roll for a modest investment, and then marking it up substantially with their name behind it. I almost bought a super clean e39 m5 off them a few years ago and Kind of wished I had - the one I wound up buying for ~$6k less wound up being alot rougher around the edges than I would have liked.
But putting all that aside, this is a different order of magnitude of what they are offering and you ALWAYS ask as high as possible to start on these types of cars. How many e39s and e46s are there with this mileage and condition in the U.S.? Maybe 1-2 a year come on the market. They are simply pricing accordingly. To put this into context, Porsche 993 twin turbos well used are now going for these prices....and "brand new" ones in similar shape are going for >$200k and being snapped up. This is not the enthusiast market anymore - this is the rich-people-who-like-automotive-art-market. Adjust your expectations accordingly. |

I almost bought a car from them. I thought they were asking about $2k-$3k more than it was worth but the main problem is I didn't want to buy and switch out the interior trim (had wood grain). Otherwise, buying from across town compared to flying to Boston and buying the one I found, then driving back. Add in the time and money invested it would have been worth paying a more to not deal with it.
Also, everything on their site is an asking price.

Ignoring storage and maintenance costs and assuming an MSRP of $49,000 + 8% in sales tax, selling this for $100,000 (~14 years later, assumes 2012 delivery) generates a ~4.5% annual return (which is a gross underperformance compared with a clean E30 M3). Assuming you were willing to wait and could compound your $49,000+tax at 5% (post-tax), you could own this M3 and have $5,000 left over to spend on tires, gas and, err.. subframe reinforcement work. Were you savvy enough to compound at 10% (post-tax), you could own both (i.e. ... Your $49,000+tax would now be ~$200,000). In other words, this is being offered below what it would likely cost any of us to replicate (buy, store, etc.) at a rational rate of return. Add in the collector value (or whatever the marginal utility of a BMW is over MSRP)- and I sort of think these are OK prices. |
