The e9x m3s power dome(buldge) on the hood was a classic. That+the body kit made it look different from all other 3s.
I wish BMW had done the same for this generation.

I see people putting M badges on everything- even non BMWs and it doesn't bother me whatsoever. It's when they try to pass it off as a true M that it gets annoying, but hey- whatever makes em happy
You think the E92 M3 looked more different to the 335iS than the F80 does to the F30 335iS? Get your eyes checked.

Re badging, I'm not too bothered. Debadged my E92.

I was speaking about the coupe (did I mention the 335? No, I clearly stated the m4 & 435)

YOU go get your eyes checked

There was just an article on this in the recent Roundel. Basically the profits from M Sport options go into producing M cars. I'm okay with that. Plus I would rather look at a 5 series with M Sport than a base one on the street.

As an owner of both an E92 335is and F80 M3, I would have to say that they are both equally well differentiated between their standard and M versions. The front and rear flares of the E92 M3 were, IMO, very noticeable and obviously stood out from a 335is. This goes equally for the F80 M3 vs. F30 335i as the F80 M3 has really nice flared quarter panels and even a lay person, like my wife, can't believe that the F80 and F30 are built on nearly identical platforms as she really thinks they are totally different cars.

However, the F82 M4 and F32 335i M sport, to my eyes at least, look much more similar because the rear flares don't stand out at all on the F82 M4. If the cars were side by side, you can easily tell. But, on more than a few occasions, I've had to look twice to see if I was looking at an M4 or 435i/428i.

That last paragraph was my point exactly.

I'm not trying to devalue either car. They're both beautiful and every time I see anyone with an M I'll give them the props they deserve.

I mean, if people like you and I who love/appreciate these cars have to double take- imagine those who don't know the difference between an M sport and an ///M. That's all.

At the end of the day- We all have beautiful rides. Plain and simple

Looking thru 435i M package front spoiler grilles will tell the story - smaller radiators, side air ducts (brake coolers?) and no oil cooler in sight. I also noticed some flat plastic plate on the middle of the front spoiler grille - what is it ? My E92 N55 335i grille had uniform pattern all over...

Not factory so a bit off topic but maybe some added badge people like this X3 driver have an M1 sitting at home in the garage and they stuck the badge on their daily to sport their favorite three colors LSB/IR/IB.

Very good point! I put an ///M badge on my Yaris - and I've been called out by a few BMW drivers, if only they knew I have an m6 in the garage too.

I think the thing bmw has to be careful about is diluting the ///M brand. But they won't know until they've fallen off that cliff.

Personally, I don't care much at all. I rather like being a little incognito with my M4.

Also, this time around, the difference between M3vs335 >>>>M4vs435 IMO.

Most on this forum know the difference but plenty don't. At the BMW drive day yesterday some people thought their M135i had the same engine as an M3 and didn't know that an M3 and M4 are basically the same car. They were very happy to have a small M3 for half the price! BMW is probably happy that most customers don't know the difference so are happy to pay extra for M bits on a cheaper to make car thinking they are getting the real thing and only enthusiasts actually care and they know the difference anyway.

Part of the reason to debadge the real thing.

I have an M5, an M3 and i ordered my X5 35d with M-sport package. It does not offend me at all. I get it. The M235i is kind of in between though but still does not bother me. I understand what it is and its purpose and i would have no shame buying and owning one. ///M

This happens all the time. People put M badges on many new BMW's, especially M sport equipped cars. Very sad trend, especially when I see them on cars that don't even have real M version, such as 7 series, X3 or x4.

It's a tricky one. I love my M4 and I think it is clear this is no up spec 4 series. Most with any know realise something like an M4 is very different from the suspension, chassis to the engine. A genuine M car should be able to do constant laps under normal conditions and maintain optimum power, handling and brake consistency. They tread a very fine line in over saturating the M brand but as some have stated BMW needs to ensure that the 'halo' effect flows down so it can keep building 'proper' M cars. I like the M badges on the side of my X5 50i but they are small M badges and the car/SAV does have a genuine M body kit, 20" M alloys, Adaptive M suspension and the 8spd auto box is the sports-shift but it also has 330kw and a sub 5.0 0-100 time. I am a little bit perturbed that an X3 2.0d can wear M badges just with a body kit but I imagine the marketing team are as aware of the dilemma as much as we are.

I personally don't mind the fact that my car is an M-Sport (BMW has been doing this for a while) but I'm really not a fan of all the M badges that are spattered all over the car to make it attractive to those going through a mid-life crisis but can't afford an actual ///M. Hopefully, when I buy the M Performance exterior parts for my F32, I'll get rid of the exterior M badges and the stupid M Performance sticker the dealer put on my side skirt when they installed the MPPK.

The other day there was a MG M4 at a light and I couldn't tell it was an M4 until I was very close and saw the front bumper. I think some colors make it harder to tell the cars apart (which is great, since I personally like being able to blend in to the crowd)

It doesn't bother me. In fact, it just means people think highly of M cars in general. This is the best one I've ever seen in person.
