I was shooting birds along a ridge road with my 500mm lens when these flowers caught my eye against the sky. I love the way this demonstrate that lens' great color and contrast.

Great gull portrait. Looks like he should send it home to his momma.

I wouldn't normally do this, but I like the vignetting, bringing focus onto the bird without cropping as tightly. Lighting is great. I could only see in the Large size on Flickr, so I couldn't count feathers and pixel-peep. Looks great in the Large size.

Dave

Is it wrong that, even when on vacation, that every time I saw a cool bird or a nice bridge that I thought about Dave and Tim respectively? If I get the chance to shoot something like that the first thing that would cross my mind would be, "now is this worthy of Dave or Tim?"

Thanks for the compliment Adrean, I think. I hope other people think, "Maybe I can do that" and try.

Here's THE image that drew me into birds and wildlife photography. I was staying in a high rise hotel on the South Florida coast in the spring of '09 when I noticed an osprey hunting off the top of the building. I was only two stories from the top and pulled out my 5D MkII and my 70-200mm f/4L IS and kept shooting as the osprey road the sea breeze off the front of our building. This is a heavy crop (around 80%), but the 5D2 stands up to that really well:

A few days after getting back to Colorado I ordered my 400mm f/4.6L and the rest is history. Just like almost anything, you get better the more you do it.

No problem guys (yeah Dave def. a compliment ) Given my current location I live vicariously through the len's of everyone here. Gives me ideas and things to look forward to once I finally decide to call it quits in the Middle East. That being said, I noticed an area while driving around the base here where these huge crows sit at the edge of a cliff and sometimes when the wind blows they lift off and seem to just hang there in the updraft just edges from the cliff rim...gonna shoot that if I can get away with it eventually....

Yeah, ususally the updrafts come at the same time every day and the birds can't resist going for a ride. If you can safely get up there (we want you back in one piece) that'd be a great photo op.

Just a shot from a simple photoshoot I did for a good friend. She's also an investment banker in Hong Kong!
