There was some conflicting info stating that it was Hurricane Andrew in 1999. I had to dig deeper.

It was a pretty cool experience walking through the property, imagining what it was once like, and gathering an appreciation for the power of nature. There were many other buildings, automobiles, etc that were run down and abandoned on Eleuthera, but not to the extent of the club med ruins.

OK, LJ, I am impressed!

My daughter did a solo motorcycle trip through Western China some years back -- clearly a recipe for disaster -- starting in the Naxi area of Yunnan province and heading North for Mongolia. The bike broke several times and finally she gave up well short of her original goal as the Chinese-brand bike was too unreliable.

Among other notable events, she witnessed and photographed (with permission of the family) a Tibetan "sky burial" (not for the squeamish!) and later, since sky burials have been deemed illegal by the Chinese authorities, had a camera card confiscated by the police. (The joke was on the Chinese authorities, as she had switched cards...) She had many close calls with large trucks that preferred to drive in the middle of the road rather than on their side, and possibly learned some very impolite Chinese phrases in the process.

She now is much less adventurous, currently an operating room nurse in Mammoth, California, and pretty much snowed in. She's got some serious seasonal blues with all the snow and is looking to relocate as soon as she can. But she still (at age 47) has a bike: a KTM390.
