Bi-Xenon headlight

I got xenon installed on my 325. Is Xenon for e90 Bi-xenon? The high beam is not a xenon. So why do they call it bi-xenon?

i believe all so-equipped e90s are bi-xenons....adaptives or not. I read somewhere, for sustained high beams, the main light aperture opens up emitting the high-beam light output. This is so as xenons take time to come on and off...this is where the bi-xenons come in. The halogens are for passing, flashing and DRLs...

The halogens are for DRL and flashing. The xenons in E90s are bi-xensons. Try to switch to high beam (not flashing).

A lot more to that than simply swapping them out...there's add. hardware, modification and programming to be done. This has been discussed numerous times, for more reference, a search should net you more details...but the consensus is, its not worth it.

Well, the high beam in my xenon light is not xenon as I look at it. When I switche to high beam, that halogen high beam turned on and the xenon light stayed where it was, i.e. there was no cover opened up to let the xenon beam high. I should ask the dealer to see if there's some programming missing or something.

So are you saying that in your xenon headlight, both the circular light sources are xenon?? What is DRL btw?

thanks.

Here is my take at this. Went out and checked the headlights on the 330. The low and high both appear to come from the outer xenon area. The inner halogen does not come on with highs. So as someone said...apparently all xenons on these e90s are truly bi-xenon here in the states...unless the 325 is different however I doubt it.

This is news to me! I had always assumed that the highs were different but I did notice that when I switched to high that the xenon low beams never went out. I had just assumed that the halogens kicked in but I was wrong!

They are bi-xenons, in Australian spec at least, and BMW Australia advertise them that way.

There is still the halogen light for flashing and DRL...

Put your lights on high beam in the country and see the road light up, you could not put your hand on your heart and say that these are the halogens, they are definitely xenons for high beam also...

Mine flashing and high beam are both halogens. There must be some programming issue then. I'll take it to the dealer.

On non US cars the inner halogens also come on with High Beam, but the flap on the Xenons also opens to emit more light

park your car facing a wall and look at the light from the Xenons (the real white light), when you push the stalk forward for high beams you will see the white light get brighter

... if your engine is off you will also hear quite a loud smack like sound when you go fro high to low beam or vice versa.

also, concurring with the words of Fleet, my halogens come on with high beam, but you can also see the extra light coming from the Xenons.

Not on mine as I checked it against the wall. Can't wait to bring it to the dealer.

Yes, it definitely sounds like a dealer needs to be involved. Hope she is well soon, and lucky you discovered this sooner rather than later...
