Maybe the supra has a 1mph edge in a sharp corner taken at like saying 90mph for example. They perform completely identical. The supra/z4 chassis is just phenomenal its basically better than f series m cars

Exactly. And I'm sure in America at least on the m40i they don't come with runflats.

The thing sits on 19 inch 275s rear 255 front thays basically f82 m4 wheels on a much shorter length height wheelbase car but with the same width as a f82 m4 and very close to the width of a new 5 series. It's phenomenal and I am a track guy and can confirm while the supra may get like lets say 1 minute 20 on a track at my best, the z4 would.get 1 minute 20.3 or something and I'm being conservative. The z4 is 99% as good as supra. The steering feels different but when pushed they stay planted at similar speeds no question and I have experience.pushing these cars to the limit
There's a lot that contradicts in here and I don't want to pick because I think it's due to your amount of passion that you have for your z4 as I do with both of mine. That's why I started by saying it's a bit of a bias opinion. again not trying to pick a fight or anything because I know you're passionate about what you've chosen for your car.

I'm still trying to dig up the E89/G29 torsional specs but so far I found:

MKV is right around 40,000nm/deg,

E89 states 25% more than previous, if we take that as the E85 comparison that takes it to 20,000nm/deg If it was compared to the E86 that'd put it at 40,000 so highly unlikely given the MKV.

G29 I can't find a straight answer yet, from looking I've found some saying the new cross bars add 20% more but saw a blurb stating 40% gain from E89 (based at E85 comparison for the E89) putting it at 28,000nm/deg but can't confirm that.

If some chance the E89 was comparing to the E86 that'd take the E89 to 40,000nm/deg and then the G29 to 56,000nm/deg at 40% so that's highly unlikely given the MKV is at 40,000nm/deg.

So as a recap just in finding what I could so far at a guess 28,000nm/deg G29 to 40,000nm/deg of the MKV. Feel is all based on a persons perspective so I wanted to dig a bit to see rigidity comparison numbers, with a lot of suspension advancements today that will come into play of feel vs what the cars physically doing.

I'm still searching for links with true numbers rather than just "25% more" "40% more" press release numbers so if someone out there has those links please post them up for any corrections to this comparison.

I'm pretty damn objective as I own a 2nd gen but think that the 1st gen is still great, update the front and interior and it would be so sweet (I'd take the coupe). I know ppl love their 3rd gen but I don't get the pt/its purpose (I actually don't get the pt of mine cuz I'd rather they further improve the 1st but I guess they felt they couldn't compete w the Cayman).

Never been a fan of the Z4,I think it's rather ugly. I am a fan of 500hp 2-seaters however...that being said, when the wife was shopping for a new convertible last year we looked at a new Z4 M40i the local dealership had ordered on spec. She couldn't get past the looks and promptly said, "nope". Wouldn't even sit in it lol. I'm not a convertible-type dude probably because I'm short, bald and in my 50s...I'd look like a total douchetard driving around town w the top down lol

Next day a new '22 430i convertible arrived, our CA texted a few pics of it to us and she said, "SOLD,I want the 430i".

To each their own I suppose

Honestly, it’s the 30i with its 3250lb curb weight that I’m most intrigued by! Assuming it has an identical chassis to the more powerful car then I’d 100% want the lighter 30i. For the Northern California backroads, canyons, and mountain sides I can’t see ever being able to use 500hp like I’d want to.

But to answer your question, I’d take the M4 due to the longer wheelbase to cope with the power. I’ve driven a 560hp Supra and the car/chassis seemed to lose its charm at that power level - I imagine the Z4 would react similarly as it’s the same platform.

Due to kids this could never be a reality for many years but thanks to OP for letting me take the mental trip for a few minutes!

Oh don’t let kids be the can’t factor. Granted I’ve had my e85 for 12 years so was pre kid but also having an understanding Mrs helps. She actually drove the e85 more the first day we got it than I did. Having a kid gave me the excuse to get an e82 as a daily with a back seat for the kiddo to be in and gave me free range to modify the e85. Flash forward few years ago was able to be in a place to add the e86 and use the excuse it’s a car for me and the kiddo to build up. We don’t use silly tape measure on the wall to measure his height growth no siree Bob, we use him in the sparco seat pics annually since he was 3mo Use the kiddo as your motivation!

What a beautiful car dude. The E85 caught a lot of shit when it was released, but looking back it's easily the best looking one of the bunch by a long shot.

The Boxster S is my top choice for next car, and I do like the outgoing M2, so absolutely. A dedicated BMW sports car would be right up my alley.

calm down there

I do like the Z4 and would love to see a z4m. If I was in the market for that type of vehicle would definitely put it up against the equivalent 718 (but probably lean towards the 718).

Unfortunately for enthusiasts this is true. BMW is catering more to the mainstream buyer now.

Love it haha! The Mrs let’s me have a S1000RR and I don’t want to push it too much - I’m not even allowed to ride it anywhere but on track as it is

The compromise to get a convertible would likely involve an accompanying minivan… I know when to fold em’ and when to walk away

Harsh? Nah,simply my worthless opinion thats all lol. I don't find it an attractive car whatsoever. As I'm sure most people reading this will think an X3MC is ugly or stupid or makes no sense. Variety is the spice of life

If you saw what I look like you'd understand why I'm not a 2 seater convertible dude hence why I have less than zero interest. Actually,I stand corrected;the wife bought a 2007 997 C4S Cabriolet when they 1st came out and I'd fight her for the keys all the time lol. But in general a middle aged man rocking a convertible screams mid-life crisis to me.

And it's perfect convertible weather 10-11mos outta the year down here on Hilton Head Island SC,and the Mrs loves cruising in her MILF mobile soaking up the sun gathering all sorts of attention lol.

It's all good, just surprised you don't like any of the gens since it covers a big spectrum; usually it's the 1st gen guys ragging on us 2nd gens saying we're too big, fat and uppity lmao. So, is it an image thing or you *really* don't like them, cuz if it's the 1st thing, you shouldn't care what other ppl think.

For me, cars couldn't come small enough, I was surprised that my car's length was the same as a Civic...wth.

Oh I’d never own a vert when I lived in NC. My black 90s cavalier was always green from all the damn pollen. Damn hue of green in the air from it you couldn't see Carolina blue hell I don’t even visit my brother down there cause of my allergies now

It’s funny you mention mid life crisis one of my wife’s cousins came to visit think a year ago also a bmw guy but more so for the status symbol and asked me if I was going through exactly that (got the car at 31) until I told him how long I’ve had it showed him the track maps from otds and walked him around all the work done to it over the years. And as far as thinning and baldness if you have the top down all the time you’re susceptible to that anyway so might as well enjoy the top down going bald. Kinda like all the grays you earn from having kids it’s a right of passage hell look at all the bikers in no helmet law states.

I honestly like the idea of a hardtop convertible, wish they would’ve kept that going rather than going back to soft top. No matter what car it is, to me what the soft top is up the lines don’t look right, even worse for the longer soft tops where you’ve got a backseat. There’s a reason I only have a few pics of my e85 with the top up, one of which is while I’m washing it so there’s a lot going for the e89 design. Not to mention the hard top vert weathers a long better than any cloth.

I simply don't fit comfortably in a small car like that,I'm too cramped. You are absolutely 100% correct,I do not concern myself with what other people think. If that were the case,I probably wouldn't have bought an M because we all know what non-BMW drivers think of the majority of BMW M drivers: were all jerks and drive like lunatics on the roads, and think that non-M BMW's(M-performance models) are sub-par etc
Can't tell you how many times I've overheard negative comments about BMW owners at various car meets, dragstrip rentals etc

Ya, I'm still scratching my head on that, it's like BMW doesn't have any direction when it comes to the Z4, from kinda hard sportscar to sporty luxury GT and now I'm not sure what mkt the 3rd gen is going after.

The hardtop is nice, but, to be honest, I think I'd rather have a coupe to avoid any potential prbs down the road because ofc it's way more complicated (I agree vs a soft-top, I'm not a fan of that look either). My top has been great (knock wood) but who knows further down the road?

I loved the E86, wish they still sold it new but I was too late when I was in the mkt.
